sheltered by the sand dunes, and with access to ground water, bushes and trees begin to grow... maybe someday a pine and oak forest might grow, reclaiming what was lost three centuries ago... meanwhile, the sand dunes are an otherworld to be explored...

Mary - Are those white birch trees growing in the midst of sand? I like how you have composed the photo, with the brush and trees off center, allowing the dunes to be seen amidst light and shadows. Hopefully, the grasses and trees will help stabilize the fragile dunes. Well done! Thad

Could be an oasis in a desert Mary instead of the sand dunes.
Stunning post. Love it!
