Curious as to what the source of the lighting is? (Can't shake the thought/idea that what I am seeing here is that of some car headlights?)

I really like the textures with the really cool lighting and shadows. To me it looks like it could be grainy snow or as Jimbob says sand, Which is it Mary.

It is an interesting and versatile method of lighting that can be employed to illuminate parts of your subject. Or, more of ... if so desired.
