The Gateway Bridge was developed by the Detroit Regional Gateway Advisory Council (DRGAC) in preparation for Super Bowl XL, hosted in nearby Detroit in February 2006. It was one of several improvements made in the mid-2000s along 18 miles (29 km) of Interstate 94. The bridge cost $14 million and was part of an approximately $520 million on I-94 improvements. The unique design meant that the cost was $2 million higher than conventional plate-girder bridges, causing public controversy. Private funds were largely used to cover the increase.

I grew up around here about 3 miles or so from it. use to jog under it on a 5.3 mile course i did every day. it sure didnt look like this back then! sure am glad to have moved out of that hell hole!...and out in the country side more then 60 miles away. this is rush hour just before dawn. perfect for Traffic Light Trails.

oops i forgot, its a long exposure on bulb mode with my Canon 60D, on one foggy morning, need to try this when there no fog. however, fog sure hides clarity issues, at the same time?...its all about the light trails anyways.

As you know, Chris, nighttime open-shutter photos are some of my favorite images, and this one's a doozy. Nighttime lighting of this sort makes this part of the city a memorable landmark for visitors, leaving a lasting good impression on them. Detroit should not complain for a second about the extra cost; they need every good impression they can get. This one is now in my favorites file and into my desktop wallpapers folder, forever and ever, Amen. Thanks Chris; the vantage point you chose and the settings you used made a five-star submission (and I didn't even notice fog!). [and yes, Sandi, Bulb is good... Bulb is our friend :o]

just waited for as many Semi's to line up, which didnt take long during rush time in the morning, things start moving...hit the shutter button! I got lucky with a couple trucks going across the bridge at the same time. star flares or spikes around the lights tells you i was in 16-22f... to reduce the in coming light saturation and allow more time for the shutter to stay open...that and have your ISO down next to nothing. i think this one is close to or above one minute...then close the shutter! after a 2 mins things got a little messy. thats all there is to it! couple practice tries and you'll know when your time is up and getting towards washout. I think the fog that morning played a large part in bouncing light my way. did on the last one i posted on M66...so this time i made sure i was off in the dark and not right in the road. with 8 different directions for traffic to come and go, not to mention over the bridge is 4 lines one way! naahhh i'll pass this time getting to close to the action.

just incase someone is interested in how its done, theres the basic directions above.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
