Yorktown,VA has a traveling sailboat for tourists to get a feel for sailing.

Ted, this is a fine capture ot the the schooner 'Alliance'.
I'll provide you and the Caedes-friends with some details:
The 'Alliance is relatively new schooner because she (ships are female) was built in 1995 by Treworgy Yachts in Palm Coast, Florida. Her initial name was 'Kathryn B', and she worked as a charter vessel in the Maine Windjammer fleet.
In 2005 she was sold to Yorktown Sailing Charters, Yorktown, Virginia (and was renamed 'Alliance') in order to start daysail cruises.
Some characteristics:
-Length (on deck): 80′ / 24.4 meters;
-Length (on water line): 65′ /19.8 meters;
-Beam: 19′ 10'' / 5.8 meters;
-Draft: 8′ / 2.4 meters;
-Displacement: 75 tons;
-Sail area: 3000² feet / 914 m² meters;
-Maximum speed (under power): 9 knots (1 knot is about 1852 meters per hour);
-Maximum speed (under sail): 12 knots.
