This guy was hanging around the Lilac bush this past winter and checking out the feeders.

This was shot in jpeg format with the canon 450D and Canon ef70-300mm IS USM lens on a cloudy day.

It had been in my files and came across it, decided to run it through the Dynamic-Photo HDR program. It brought the orginal ( which was lacking luster and detail to life).

Here is a wonderful site with lots of info and you can listen to their sweet sound.

Thank you for your comments and advice. =^..^= sandi ♪

I think your shot is a better picture of the woody than the one on the site you linked us to. Maybe you should be thinking "commercial" on your bird series, my dear. ~~ John

Nice capture Sandi ... it looks like the woodpecker was taking a bow. Love the detail.

Terrific shot, Sandi. I love his bright red head. He almost seems to be aiming it in your direction for inspection. lol
While out in the woods today, I heard several different woodpeckers, but I couldn't see them.

Amazing what the HDR program will do to liven an otherwise blah picture. It's almost like you save just about anything, and make it worth posting. Super work with this, Sandi. Although I can't see how this could have ever looked blah, it sure looks beautiful now. Well done.

It would be easy to become a birdwatcher there too. I have seen these around here but they must be just passing through as they do not hang around.

Even after nearly 4 years I hadn't seen this one. The warm side-lighting, position and disposition of the bird, overall composition and focus makes this a real beaut. My sister loves birds and with your kind permission I'm going to forward a copy on for her monitor. I know she'll dig it as much as me.
