It’s an experiment with external manual flash. A shaft of late afternoon sunlight illuminated the flower head from behind right. I found it in the Newcastle botanic gardens. It didn’t have a nametag so if anyone knows what it is I’d be pleased if you could enlighten me. Critiques welcome.

Excellent Robert...the flash filled in the rest of the details nicely. And you have achieved a to die for depth of field, not black but dark enough to give contrast and still keep some detail and color. Wonderful capture:-)

I don't know if I'd die for that dof, but I sure would give you one of my Tootsie Pops! ;) Beautiful. I'm even looking past the bug onto all that excellent detail in this pretty and oh so colorful unknown to me flower. Presentation is classy too!

Spot on, Robert! This is so amazingly crisp and clear. The colors are lovely and there's even a bee. The frame is elegant, and the focus draws the eye straight to the subject and nothing else. Good job.

This flower looks like Red Hot Poker. The scientific name is Kniphofia.

Great shot!

Nice work with light, Robert. It is hard to get that kind of luminescence and still keep a natural palette. That Kniphofia would be proud of what you have done with it's bloom.
Good onya, mate!!!
