This is the old customs house in Newcastle. It now houses a restaurant. I didn’t use any filters, Someone always asks :-) The star effect is just the result of a long exposure and the lens I used.
I am always pleased when a night shot has such clarity and the lighting is just right to give it the night look but still provide the view and details you have here. The light star effect seems to be a particular favorite for me too as any other night shot with that in it, usually gets my higher attention. I particularly like the way you composed it within the street lamp upfront and the clock tower in back.
I love the crisp, clean look this capture has to it Robert. Especially eye-pleasing is the thin frame you used. It makes this a very classy image. My night shots...well, enough said there.lol So along with praise comes a bit of envy that I cannot acheive what you did. I like everything about the photo and it is in my fav's on my harddrive.....thanks :))

A very nice shot! You have the exposure perfect, and the b/w works very nicely here, probably better than color because of the older nature of the building. If I may ask, how long was your exposure, and what aperture used? And might I be so bold as to ask what camera and lens you used? :) A very well done shot! I look forward to seeing more from you!
Have a great day!

that a great shot! i love old places like this! ive experimented with the so called "star" effect. i do alot of night shooting. small apertures(larger numbers) gives that star effect. use 4-11 and its reduced giving a nice glow around the lights. you still get nice clarity from a distance. DOF is only really effect from subjects focused up close. unless you were going for the star effect?..i personaly like them! which made me click on the image in the feature images for today. congrats on a well done night shot!
