I don’t know if this is a fly or a wasp. He is less than a centimetre long and took no notice of me whatsoever. I will be of to the library tomorrow to find out what he is.
Great shot Robert....I think it is a 'hover' fly..but that is the name over here where sensible folk taaalk!
Such a beauty of a close-up...you done the composure good too!....Bob
Careful-this looks like a wasp. I've been stung by them :( As far as the image, its super! He has a super grip on that flower. Nice crisp clear image...
Kinda' looks like a wasp to me too...either way, an excellent shot Robert...the detail and clarity is amazing...my but you are good at these!...good work.:Pat.
Nice Macro. I dont quit eknow what he is either. Let me know when you find out. It looks like he is looking at you and thinking I am not moving so take your photo and get on out of here.
We're probably talking something in the Family Syrphidae here, a "flower fly." That narrows it down to about 1000 species. They are useful in the garden because their larvae eat potentially harmful insects. Stunningly sharp image!!!
This is a fantastic shot. Mercy. What detail of an insect. I don't normally use such compositions for desktops but this one I will. I don't think it's a wasp. I see no stinger. Weird insect. Great capture.
Pat
Whatever this 'beastie' is it is a wonderful shot of it. That you have captured such detail of such a tiny creature is amazing. The clarity is striking. Love it.
Long time reporting back but here what your fly is.It's a Tachinid Fly - Cylindromyia ... Benificial it lays it's eggs in garden pests and theY devour the host...Nice closeup
