I bought a second hand flashgun, which arrived today. So I took a walk around the backyard looking for something to zap and found this. It’s a cactus sort of thing that was given to us and it never had a label. What you see here measures 2 ½ centimetres from top to bottom. Does anyone know what it is?

Quite beautiful Robert, and your title is just right. Perfectly composed with all the clarity needed. I have no idea what this plant is - but it's magnificent! The pink colour with touches of yellow, is unusual and lovely - wonderful on the pure black background. Thanks for starting my day off beautifully :*)

Super nice Robert, very pretty and nicely done. The flower is not a flower...DO NOT TOUCH IT! It is a pink drooping alien pod, if you so much as bump it little aliens will fall out and the invasion will be on....I would be getting out of there if I were you!

Without the fleshy part of the plant it's hard to tell the name -could be one of the Sedum group, but I am not sure! However, that flashgun is good thing to have! This is perfect study of this sweet little flower!

Wow Robert, you have got yourself a pretty plant in your yard. Wish I knew what it was. The touches of yellow are rather unique and add so much to the coloration of this blossom. I like the black background, it enhances the beauty even more. Your flashgun was a great investment for you. Thanks for sharing this with us ;=)

Your description, a "cactus-sort of thing", kind of makes it difficult to identify...
However the color and slight fleshyness of the bloom, and the fact that it appears to be beginning to bloom near Thanksgiving, I'd lay a fairly safe bet this is a Thanksgiving cactus also called Christmas Cactus or False Christmas Cactus.
There are a number of scientific names it goes by:
Epiphyllum truncatum, Cactus truncatus, Cereus truncatus, Zygocactus truncatus, Epiphyllum altensteinii, Zygocactus altensteinii, Epiphyllum ruckeri, Epiphyllum bridgesii, Epiphyllum delicatum, Zygocactus delicatum, Schlumbergera truncata
