According to my trusty field guide, this is a Black Shouldered Kite. He’s about 30 centimetres long with a 90-centimetre wingspan. He started his drop from a little over 50 metres, at this point he’s still 5 metres up and coming down fast… real fast.

Incredible clarity Robert, especially for something moving so fast. You've outdone yourself once again, and that must be an increasingly hard thing to do:)

I think I may have used the word 'masterpece' before for your work.
I can not think of a better one for this.
Superb !!

Your photography has always been a cut above, but lately your work has really achieved a new level. Excellent job of capturing the speed and your framing shows it off at its artistic best!

Whata great shot! I love it. I sure wish I could get stuff like this. Only one problem Robert...that's a bird not a kite...I would be throwin that book away.

What a magnificent capture of another of your feather friends Robert! The angle of the descent and your capture gives the viewer a wonderful perspective of this kite. The way that the wings are upward and spanned is quite fascinating. I like how the tail feathers are so highly visible as well as the talons. It isn't hard to see why small rodents etc. become dinner! The quality of this image as your friend plummets toward the ground is incredible as is the color and the extreme detail and the quality is stupendous!
The added final touch is the framing that you did. Your work is creeping higher and higher in excellence and when I see your name in the newspaper for your private showing of art/photography, I am going to be able to say"I knew him when"! Maybe I can even beg an invite :)) Superb work my friend. Right to my favorites as well as my new desktop. Thank you for sharing this with me ;=) I love it!!!!

This is unreal. The whole bird has been expertly captured but my eyes are drawn to the feet. They are so clear and the claws.........super sharp. And all of it to have been captured in motion. Well done, Robert. What's next? National Geo?

Oh Robert, I'm running out of words, but this capture is glorious. What a spectacular bird - I hope he landed ok. Your composing is fantastic. Wonderful sharpness and details. Those wings are beautiful flared out, and those super claws inspire respect. I like the soft colours of the background. And the frame work is classy. Kudos & more Kudos for this superduper image :^*>

:¬O... That's my jaw dropping in amazement! To achieve that clarity of plumage detail is something; but to capture it on a power diving raptor just takes it to the next plane of existance!!! A beautiful bird, fantastic capture and a subtle yet very enhancing framing - perfect. My only frustration is I am still unable to locate the magazine details I mentioned. I have the sneaking suspicion they have folded:o( But not given up yet.
20/10. I bet you can't top that! Now there's a challenge;o)
Cheers,
Steve.
