Well, just thought I'd give it a try too. I'm not a pro, just an amateur HTML/CSS coder. I can't do graphics so the 'Caedes' is ordinary text in a simple font. It's there just as placeholder basically, a nice graphic would look a lot better. Nothing as fancy as many of the designs posted here, but, there you go. Just wanted to try a simple layout. It's all hand-coded in valid XHTML 1.0 Transitional, no tables, all pure CSS. There's some simple hover effects you can see live here: http://www.traweb.com/test/caedes/ (NB: The CSS needs checking for cross-browser compatibility - I'm sure the alignment of photos is screwed up in IE - so if you see anything looking strange on that web page, leave a note about it, if you like!) I'm still working on it so any suggestions and criticism very appreciated.

I checked in Mozilla Firefox 0.8 and everything was ok but in IE it only shows 2 columns of thumbnails and the hover highlights dont work on the thumbnails. I really like this design though (unlike mine I can see it working), all it needs is some simple background to the menus, if you can't do this I'm sure if you posted asking for someone to come up with background images for the menu's they would help, hell I'd do it if you want. Good luck with the contest (9/10 - my favorite so far)

Thanks temmink! far too kind :)

I've fixed the alignment problem in IE. The hover effects don't show in IE because IE can't handle hovers on elements that are not links - here the hover is on the image itself.

I've also changed a few minor things, see again at http://www.traweb.com/test/caedes/ - I'll post a new screenshot later.

I don't really see this layout getting anywhere as far as the fancier ones though! There's more complete designs out there. I was just trying to come up with a layout structure basically. You're right, the menus could probably do with a bit of spicing up... I also tried putting the logo somewhere in there but I can't get the transparency to work somehow... I must have been getting the wrong logo file?

Very nice. Simple and clean. I'd like to see some version with the caedes spider integrated in some part of the design.
