ya, it doesn't work for me. I have tried a couple of times. It opens up and loads the room, then it spits this out in the chat area:

I couldn't log on either. Had the same problem as Pat and I remembered I had this problem another time with one of my desktop computers and found that the machine didn't have MS Virtual Machine installed on it. This was when Microsoft and Sun Microsystems hadn't started their respective lawsuits. I was able to download a copy of Virtual Machine and saved a copy of the executable program. I installed it on this machine = no more problems. I don't think Microsoft has that download available anymore, so I don't know what the answer is for others with this problem. Hope this helps and someone else can point a finger at how this issue can be resolved.

hope so because the current one blows. thought i had it sussed now it says it wont connect because the host is trying to connect to fast and getting throtled. apparently.

I've been thinking about hosting an IRC server for a while. I'm, running tests on what will be my server box. If I do get it past the acid test I'd bve happy to give up bandwith for a channel. i'm on a 3 meg/512k line and I have machiner that never stop. I can keep ya posted caedes ;-)

that's pretty good , especially that it is on quakenet server , as I always idle there :). I probably put the autojoin on , well I hope there are going to be a little more people than now.

Last time I tried to join, I got the message:

"Cannot join channel, you must be authed to join (+r)"

Tried to get Q to recognise me and get auth'd, etc, (all new to me) but the quakenet verification page seems to be down - the security image doesn't display on any browser. I joined the #help channel and sure enough lots of people have this problem. Great.

that strange usually it doesn't give that message . Auth is used only for channel operators to get their operator status. I have never encountered this problem.

I believe it's where the channel has been made '+r' in order to make sure that only people auth'd by Q get in. It's supposed to stop spam bots, etc, I think. That's from what little I know.

I got in before, no problem, so maybe someone changed the channel status.

The situation seems to be that you need to be auth'd to get into the channel. However, to get auth'd you need to go to the quakenet verification page (having first been given the URL by email). That page isn't working properly, as per this message on the quakenet help channel: "Auth Verify Page, R and S are currently DOWN, we have no idea why, or when they will be back so DO NOT ask about it".

So, the way I read it, we seem to be stuck. I guess we could wait 24 hours and request our passwords by email from Q: /msg Q REQUESTPASSWORD user@host.com

Yeah. You often get i mode automatically. It makes no odds though.

I expect Caedes is tinkering. That's only the Java client that isn't running. You should still be able to get into the chat at one of the US quakeworld servers, but just not through your browser at present (i.e. you'd have to go through a standalone client, like MiRC).

Then just type /join #caedes.net (having got onto the server above).

first type /server irc.quakenet.org ;)

personally, i just pick it off the list. but then I'm lazy like that.
