I'd just like to take a moment to encourage people to vote for a number of reasons. First of all, *caedes… the man behind this site likes statistics, so it's highly unlikely the c-index is going to go away. Second, the voting booth was created to stop people being able to freely manipulate the system, and I think trying to find ways to circumvent the booth is a copout. Do we like all the scores coming out of the booth? No. But, here's my 3rd point, I think this is in large part due to people NOT VOTING.
I've seen numerous arguments for reasons why people don't want to vote, but are concerned about the scores they or others are getting. No system works properly if people don't use it. Most especially I'd like to encourage the people who have paid for memberships, and are most likely therefore to care about this site, to get in there and vote. Please do not expect immediate results.
It will take patience and an actual dedication on all of our parts for it to reflect our views. I do think certain things (like separating cg/abstract art from photography) should be adjusted to allow for people who don't seem to have the care and consideration to fairly rate a style of art they are unfamiliar with or don't like. That being said however, I think the booth is a valid and really nice concept. I find stuff in there that I might not see sometimes otherwise. But again... it will never function correctly and reflect our views as a community if we choose to ignore it.
And ultimately... this is my last reason… because I do not think it was ever really given a proper chance by most of the membership, and I am sick and tired of the constant debates. It makes my experience here poorer, and I'm getting to the point where I used to enjoy coming on the threads, and goofing off and being helpful… and now it's almost a chore. If I feel that, just imagine how the man (and the rest of the moderators and everyone else who puts so much into this site) feels.
