Just was looking at a link/site that Sharon; aka sharonva had sent me:

"The incredible old colour photography of Prokudin-Gorsky" ... at quazen.com.

Here is an excerpt (the preamble) from the article and accompanying photos:

"In 1909 a remarkable project was initiated by Russian photographer Sergey Mikhaylovich Prokudin-Gorsky. His mission was to record - in full and vibrant color - the vast and diverse Russian Empire. Here, with his story, is a selection of his amazing century old full color pictures."

Très interesting stuff. Quoting Sharon's words here;

"In Russia, on a grant from the Tsar... before the Russian Revolution.

They are in color...often incredibly beautiful color.
The technique was difficult, and is explained in the photo display as you look through them. It should remind you of a relatively "new" technique we use today in post-photo!

Shows a world not only long gone, but also gone shortly after the photos were taken."

In particular, there is one self-portrait of the photographer by a flowing river that really caught my eye.

Go on over and have a look see for yourselves. :o)
