Rejected Photos

In general I love this site. Lots of great photos, a fantastic community, and the ability to share some of my own stuff. Problem is that every once in a while a photo I've taken gets rejected by an ImageMod.

This happened again this week, and the generic 'personal' message I got back included the following: "We feel "snapshot" type photographs are of little interest to most users of the website and do little to enlighten the artistic minded visitor".

Okay, I understand that they don't want simple photos of family and friends. Not a problem. Only thing is that the photo, while a shot of my cat, was anything but a simple photo by the time it was uploaded (over a dozen manipulations were performed, including eye color adjustments, grayscales, depth-of-field, edge fading, face bordering, etc...). In essence, it stopped being a photo a while ago.

Now even this doesn't really bother me, but what does is this: it takes all of ten minutes on the site to find all sorts of nonsense photos people have taken of family, friends, or even themselves (by holding the camera out with one arm). These photos are less art than anything I've ever uploaded, and frankly I just don't get the double standard.

I'm not trying to cause waves or anything, but I really don't understand how a moderator can approve a photo that has no real artsy qualities while rejecting photos that do.

Okay, I'll get off my soapbox now. It's just irritating to work so hard on something and have it rejected, not because it wasn't good enough, but because a moderator arbitrarily decided to re-classify the image and reject it based on its classification.

I do have one question (which is actually why I'm posting here...not to complain, as hard as that might be to believe): why is there no way to appeal a rejection? If nothing else it'd be nice to respond to a rejection, to give an honest argument for the photo's worth, or to ask for a more detailed explanation of why it was rejected. That'd be pretty sweet.

okay, I'm done with my rant. Still love the site, will still keep uploading and enjoying what others have uploaded. Just a little confused, is all...
