I'm rather puzzled to know why I've been completely removed from the list of 100 'Most Active Members' in the last couple of days. Am I being penalised for voting too much, or perhaps for not uploading enough images?
On Sunday I was showing 401 votes and was ranking somewhere in the mid-50s/low-60s.(Most days of the week, I vote twice a day for the maximum 80 images... my way of contributing to the site, since ill-health means I often have difficulty composing & leaving a high volume of comments for members' images.)
I'm relieved to see I'm still showing up as alive and kicking on the Top Commentators link, but I'd be most grateful if someone could explain to me why I'm out of favour on the Most Active Members list.
Thank-you, anyone who can throw any light on this dichotomy.

I don't believe anybody wouldn't want you on the "A" list .... but .. my advice would be, just like the c-index .. to NOT pay attention to rankings and just hang out, enjoy, pass to another that which is passed to you
I'm so glad I'm still your No 1 Babe. Thank you! It's gratifying to know that someone other than the dog holds me in high esteem. ;-)
Ah sure you're right in advising me not to lay too much store by rankings... such fickle things, anyway. It's not where I stand in the rankings that bothers me one jot; I just take exception to being made invisible without explanation.
Am I right in saying then, that you don't know the answer to my question?
Hmmmph. When the said server is feeling a little less uppity, I wonder if you'd kindly tickle it under the chin and ask very nicely if it would reinstate Papi because she doesn't take kindly to being invisible? Thank you.
I'm not entirely sure why I might need paddles - either now or in the future - but rest assured, if I ever concoct a constructive use for them, I'll be sure to approach you immediately, my dear. :-)
Um, also, usually I'm number 9-10 (but the past 2 days I've been lazy on the votes+comments so I'm probably higher). But sometimes the server, I think, resets the comments and every1 shows 0. So during that time you could be blown off the list.
Yes, you're absolutely right - the server does update - every few minutes, I believe, and like you, I've seen all members' scores reset to 0 for a brief while but then they're given accurate stats.
Thanks a lot for trying to help me find an answer to my quandary. I guess I'm destined to be a phantom butterfly for a bit longer.
The list is sorted according to a weighted average of the number of comments, votes, and uploads for each member. and only lists the top 100. If one of the colums is really low then you might fall off the edge of the list.
You were absolutely right - the rankings DO need something (higher than a 0) in all three colums for a member's activity to register. As soon as I posted an image, I arose like a phoenix from the ashes and am now sporting high visibility again. Boom-boom... success!
Thanks a million for solving the riddle!
* Sorry Keiffer... that accolade was once yours but then you know how it is with rankings and spankings and generally falling off things or out of favour. (Banana-width grin)
JEN: Many thanks for the lovely, heart-warming compliment.

REGMAR: Yes - there are two rankings, although the scorings on both seem to be laws unto themselves... or at least I'm unable to figure out their assessment criteria.
Pssst... don't tell anyone - but I stoutly maintain it's the server's way of amusing itself with daily flashes of Emotional Intelligence.
For me, I just find it fun each morning to glance at the two lists and see if Mr. Server rates me as 'Darling of the Day' or 'Persona non Grata'.
And with that little gem, methinks I've brought this thread to its natural conclusion and it's ready now for launching into the Elephants' Graveyard.
