i have to be counted as someone who, upon hearing about this, had the initial knee-jerk reaction of one whose right to choose was being infringed upon. when one genuinely and objectively considers this, and looks at what is being attempted, it's difficult to maintain that position.

is a food or chemical, however natural, that is found in food, which is proven to be hazardous to health, less dangerous because of it's source? if it's found on a plate, as opposed to smoked in a cigarrette, or poured from a bottle, does that make it more 'wholesome'? sadly, millions would say yes.

if you're taking these words lightly, i'd advise you to reconsider. i lost a grandmother (paternal) to smoking and will probably, despite all of her protests and assurances, sooner than later lose my mother as well. the woman has smoked over two packs a day since i was three, which is thirty five years ago. out of respect for her privacy, i won't describe what she goes through, but i assure you, it's bad.

my point? not long ago, nyc banned smoking in public places and there was a huge uproar. so now that the nyc governmenthas finally taken agood hard look at what it's people shoves down their throat, these fools are indignant, and feel put upon. if anything, that should be their reaction to the restauranteers who've been serving them a heart attack on a plate.

i really find it funny how the the gov does this, but at school our lunch menus consist of:

French Fries
Hamburgers
Hot Dogs
Pizzas
Nachos
etc etc

...and they ban the coke machines saying that we are trying to keep people healthy!? :-S

it is acts like this that will force the food industry (as opposed to YOU hunting with a spear) .. to "do the right thing" and make healthier food instead of making a buck at any cost to their consumers

hopefully .. the "glop" they use to sweeten soft drinks will be next

and .. then ... (*drum roll*) ... all the fine folks driving SUVs will remember that oil isn't just sucked out of the ground .... erm .. I mean it doesn't grow on trees

My only complaint, is that if Micky D's switches here in Cali...all the money I've been saving up to do a Bio-Diesel conversion will end up costing alot more...as it stands, I can just raid the old oil bins for gas, but if they have to use better oils that will cost more, they prolly wont toss it out as freely...

yup. I have to say my initial reaction to the whole thing was also "oh please... Big Brother". Like Rob... further consideration caused me to reconsider. The use is soooo widespread, and it's so unhealthy that it has to be forced or nothing will happen.

As far as the smoking ban goes. I no longer smoke, but it's still irritating to me. Having rooms etc set aside for it was no problem in my book, and forcing people to go stand in 18° temps in the winter for their vice is just MEAN.

That makes so much sense. They keep saying at our school, "We have a new healthy option!" They put out three apples and a pear each lunch. They're covered in bruises.
