k, so I go to this other art site. Upload a few arts, and so forth.

All of a sudden, now when I log on, all I get is a blank page.

Before logging on, all is fine.

This is the issue-

K, if I cannot even log on and see the site, I cannot comment on others arts, or respond to comments left on mine. Furthermore, I no longer have any control on the ones that I've already uploaded.

To date, I've sent 2 emails to the site explaining this. Nothing. no response nada.

This is really ticking me off. Any advice on what to do? I plan on writing a 3rd email, asking to erase my membership and also deleting my art from their site.

And yes, I love this site. Caedes is truly a cut above. I've just been trying to get some of my wackiness in other channels.

Maybe i'm being paranoid here. It's a legit site and all. I really like it.

I've just been trying to improve on my systems security. In addition to a limited user account, I just started using special hosts file.

Why? Horror stories from sites stealing log in info for World of Warcraft accounts.

This started some time after using a new hosts. But the thing is, even using the new hosts file, I get to the site fine. It's only after logging in that all is blank.

So if a hosts file blocks a site, it would be blank even before logging in.

I've tried opera, ie. firefox, etc. Same.

I think Curt maybe the man to ask on this one - i think he is the Artuproar aficionado here. as a side issues have you tried nuking your system internet cache on your 'puter?

Yeah, deleted all cache. even went to an old image (Acronis true Image) before using the hosts file.

Tried diff browsers. Opera is my main one. Tried ie, firefox, all the same.

I can see the site perfectly. But, once I log in, all is blank.

Sucks really, because I really like that site.

It sounds like whatever you did to increase your computer's security is at fault here. It is possible that you have a firewall that is blocking some aspect of the login?

The only thing that was changed was the host file. I can get to the site correctly. all displays. It's as soon as I log in, then all is blank.

Right now i'm back to using the original hosts file. Same thing. This is the only site that this has happened to me like this thus far.

I'll be certain to go over everything once more a bit later tonight.

I'm really at a loss here.

I traced everything back.

This started exactly around 2 days ago. Right after i signed up for-

www.lotsofskins.com

Which is part of

www.artuproar.com network of sites.

I checked the date of the password created for lotsofskins, it is the 18th of this month. Same day as the trouble that started to happen.

Actually.. no I wouldn't be the "aficianado". :o)

I only checked it out, because someone else mentioned it. I don't even have an account there.

So, you got me stumped on that one.

correct me if I'm wrong .. a HOST file hardwires an IP for a site .. correct? ...

what if the log-in switches you to a new site address IP (members only) ... I've seen HOST files that have a lot of spammer\advertising addresses that the HOST file then lists your own computer IP as the destination .... maybe logging in changes the the IP to a similar ####

is there an ArtUproar listing in your HOST file ?? ... remove it ..

If the log-in switches me to a new site address (members only)...that makes sense. But, here's the thing. Even after removing the hosts, going back to xp's default hosts file, and rebooting, etc. The same problem happens.

I've looked to see if there was an ArtUproar in the hosts file and found zero.

As stated above, this has all started shortly after signing up at lotsofskins.com I appreciate all of you trying to help! I have been emailing artuproar and shall do so again today.

Oh- if a hosts file blocks a site, it has the default this page cannot be found/error thingy. I've tried it with a few sites that were blocked (parasite/malware sites)

ArtUproar is just plain blank.Maybe i'm just doomed.

It seems like you attempted the tried and true ... now it's time to try it my way. :o)

Just kidding a little, however, I do have a suggestion and it is this ...

Setup a new user account and see what happens.


First, hopefully you will not encounter any problems and therefore gain access to the forums(?) and some additional help from the site admins.

If you do encounter a problem ... it may point back to your IP. Perhaps the techies at your ISP could be of some assistance?

And lastly, since the two sites are connected ... contact the admins at lotsofskins.

I posted on lotsofskins forum. Someone by the name of maryqualls sent a pm to Chaz in regards to this.

All I know is i'm now able to log in and have the site visible now. There was zero info as to what the actual problem was though.

My wow account for a week? Heh, no way. I'd go insane. Besides, Haunting would also go nutty. He seems to actually enjoy watching it.
