My latest image, Reflexive, is possibly my best work and took me well over 2 hours to construct, has a shocking c-index (understandable, c-index thingo being what it is >.<) AND hardly any views or downloads JUST because it doesn't look that good as a preview yet when you view it full size, you'll love it.

I checked it out Dave and really like the dark tonalities and terrific texturings created!! I don't care for the wording of the image on the actual image, but that's just me. I also don't care for...I'll call it the framing for lack of a better word. Where there's a line and it goes darker is what I'm talkin' 'bout. I prefer, myself, to see the whole image as in the inner portion 'cause I think it rocks!! I've had similar experiences in that the DL's look real good, but the c-index sucks. Just do your thang and keep havin' fun...that's what it's all about!!
You have a lot of talent, I wish I could have the patience to make something like this.
What I see that I think could be responsible for the low C-Index:
There is no place to rest the eyes. It's a beautiful mess of great art, but nothing that really grabs attention. There's really no simplicity to it. It's a tough thing to master.
I think it's a great background if used properly. When I say properly I would say keep this background, throw a black 'normal' layer on top, and cut a big horizonal bar in the middle, does that make sense? Try different things :)
First off .. you should never expect anybody to care how long an image took to create .. leave it for the curious to ask, and then make a dismissive wave of the hand and say .. "'twas nuthin' really"
consider time spent pulling an image through the eye of a needle to completion just a little blood sacrifice by you to the Pixel Gods .. and speak no more about it, except, in hush tones, to your future son when you are out fishing Mano a Mano
and .. two hours isn't really whine worthy (photoshop hasn't even finished loading by the two hour mark)
RE: the image
I like it .. how long did it take you to make? .. I agree with Randy on both the text and the pseudo widescreen framing, but I can accept both .. the subtle nuances in layering are superb ..
but you have to know, going in, that not all viewers and voters are going to take the time to appreciate the gravitas of such a work .. a lot of people will skip the dark thumbnail bait and assume there is nothing there for them
The textures are quite detailed and interesting. Personally I find it a bit too dark (I suspect dark images in general get lower ratings) and also I think it lacks a centre of interest. However I certainly think it deserved a higher score than it currently has.

EDIT: Fixed up some rather bad typo's :P
