I am wondering why there is such a discrepancy in the numbers of votes received by different images. Some of mine reach 20/21 in a very short time and others stop at 16/17, when they are archived. I have just had 12 pictures archived all with scores of 79- 84 (which does not make me smile) and some of these have only reached this lower number of votes.
I would appreciate any opinions on This One which I thought had a good chance of permanent status. It received 16 votes. I would genuinely appreciate any thoughts as to why it failed.
There are others, but I have chosen this one to ask about because it is not a flower.
As for flowers I have poorer images in the permanent gallery than those recently dismissed.
I liked this one myself as per my comment!! Perms?? I dunno, perhaps disagree with the prior two. It's hard to convey sometimes what "we" do to get a shot. Did you see this spot and take 12-18 pics to get "it" just right...or...layin' there nekkid with sun tan oil over your bod, you roll over and think "hey", I'll squeeze off a shot, perhaps two. The world will never know. :~)
Again, I liked the capture and know nuthin' 'bout stuff goin' to perms!! Ya gotta take into consideration how many people upload here and what they upload...it's a numbers game I guess. I dunno!! I just keep thinkin' 'bout ya with oil slicked all over ya's!! 8~O

Yes, and I even braved ridicule by using the dreaded tripod, and thought in my befuddled mind it had paid off.I never liked that tripod anyway - anyone want to take it off my hands ?
12-18 shots - no - more like 30-40.
Back to my cream pies - delicious.
ps- as to the other question - in May ? No way. I was well covered in a windbreaker jacket, bravely fighting the elements :)
I went through my last 36 images and would say possibly 5 of those should be archived...I'd settle for 3....that's just me. Ya gotta think ratios baby!! Ratios!!

I think the only deciding factors for promotion should be a quality exposure .. AND .. uniqueness ..
the fact that Lyn was not slathered in suntan oil during the shutter time, while regrettable, is forgivable .. and perhaps Lyn can either learn to work that into her 'workflow' .. or learn to keep her mouth shut concerning non-compliance confessions
Personally I think the photo you refer to at the beginning could be better composed and is a bit busy, ie there are too many elements competing. While it is better than average, to me it doesn't stand out enough to justify permenant status. Just my opinion.
I guess everyone sees things differently.
I would not presume to compare my image with the work of other artists but I have no hesitation comparing it with my own 'perms'of which I have 12 images in the permanent 'Shorelines' gallery. In my eyes at least 6 of them are poorer images than Tiptoe.
I took notice of advice to attempt create a different viewpoint of a shoreline, something with more interest than just sea and sky. So I tried. I thought I had. I failed.
End of story.
No sleep lost.
Once more unto the beach dear friends.
Battles way through cream pies . . .
p.s. What about the 16 vote issue? 16 votes can give a very different score than 20/21, as we all know.
Eve, I think that your image is interesting and you certainly put in it your personality. But I must agree with Sam's opinion here. I don't see the relationship between the foreground and the background.
Just the way it was Pierre-the foreground and the background are all part of the scene- that is what NZ beaches are like - ToeToes everywhere. I could easily have named it "Typical NZ Beach Scene".
I will go back to the same place when I have time and take a shot in front of the toetoes - but that would just be another 'sea, sand and sky" shot with no personality. It was actually the beauty of the sun and shadow on the fronds I was trying to capture, the beach behind just happened to be there.
I suppose, if I am being perfectly honest, it was because of the effort I put into this picture that I was dissappointed. Of course I do realize that has absolutely no bearing on its final fate. I have already mentioned the trauma of the tripod. I also (for once) fiddled with the knobs and things to try and get the focus clear in the distance and the foreground. I rarely print any of my pictures but I did this one so for me it will always permanent.
I like the pic...perm it. Speaking of tripods...I now laugh at people who don't use one. I get lazy at times and it usually shows up in my pics. I don't leave home without one...AND a monopod. I'm even going to get one of them bean bag thingys.
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is.

:) Talk about a no-win situation. I am convinced people laugh at me when I lumber about with the three-legged thing, and now the knowledge that there are people and mandroids laughing at people who dont use one.
I used one once and look where it got me lol
