Any suggestions or thoughts on my new upload Pink?
I haven't done much photography in a while and I would like to get back into the swing of things, and some criticism would help!

it's a good idea to let the image gel for a couple days before coming here with questions

focus seems pretty soft. the edges of the flower are all fuzzy. Perhaps you needed to use a higher fstop?

wellllll, i have a very cheapie digital camera that i'm working with for now while i save for a nicer one, i really hate auto-focus, considering that's the source of all my issues, really. >_>

It seems the focus is a little soft as others have pointed out. Although, it's not the only thing that jumps out. The central placement of the flower in the frame is a little...boring (IMO). Try placing it on a third and third line ala Rule of Thirds. Of course, all rule are meant to be broken. But a firm understanding of the rule must be grasped before you get to that point (most likely, just speaking from personal experience).

As for the camera side of things. A less expensive camera will do just fine. If anything it will let you work more on the basics (such as Rule of Thirds) without being distracted by adjusting everything else (aperature, shutter speed, ISO, white balance etc). So, just keep at it, take lots of pictures and don't delete them till you look at them on the computer screen (the little lcd on cameras is very deceiving). If anything, you'll be able to look at the photos that didn't turn out and see why they didn't turn out. Once you feel you've gotten a handle on the basics and feel that you are interested in photography enough to justify a more expensive camera, then go for it!

"To photograph is to hold one's breath, when all faculties converge to capture fleeting reality. It's at that precise moment that mastering an image becomes a great physical and intellectual joy." ~ Henri Cartier-Bresson

Aubrey, I started out posting here with a 4MP point and shoot Fuji that cost around $150. Perhaps your cam might have it's limits, but learn what they are, and then push them ;-)

get in the habit of using a tripod. a cheapo starter one can be had for around twenty bucks if you look for it. again, speaking from experience.

have fun :)
