Favorites Count

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned in the past, but would it be possible to add the number of people who have added a photo as a favorite to the image description? I think this would be a cool way to search through photos as a substitute for c-index.

While we're on the subject, I think there should also be a notification when someone adds one of your images to their favorites.

I don't think it would work as a "substitute" for the c-index, mainly because people already complain about how low the c-index is on their images now... this would be worse because not everyone wants to fav an image, even if its a fantastic work of art, for me personally I vote but very rarely fav work.. geez I can just imagine the complaints and temper tantrums if this was put in place.. especially if they only get 1 fav or 0 favs..

but on the other hand if it was just to show the artist that someone had actually faved an image that would be nice for the artist and give them a "warm fuzzy feeling" to keep on creating.. ;)

My idea exactly, give the artist a chance to know that someone likes their work. And if they don't get a favorite, they can know from comments how to improve.

But... but... Timmy.. people don't comment on how to improve anymore much these days due to being kicked in the teeth by the artist.. like I said before, if you just go by people faving an image, there are going to be tears and tantrums much bigger than the "C" word

When I said substitute, I I guess I really meant alternative. I never intended to get rid of the c-index. Obviously there is no perfect rating system but I feel that the random nature of who votes on photos in the voting booth can make a photo's c-index pretty random as well. Sometimes those who greatly appreciate a photo can't vote on it because they didn't see it in the booth, while others who are just trying to get their 10 votes in so they can upload a photo and fail to fully judge the photos they see.

J, you seem worried about people complaining about the favorites count as a substitute for the c-index and I agree, but what do you think of it as an addition? Someone's favorite count will depend on two factors including the quality of the photo and also their popularity here. The c-index is based on random people voting, some with care about the quality of the photo they are viewing and some after viewing the photo for only a couple seconds. What is better? Who knows, but I'd like to see both...personally I wouldn't compare the favorites count of my photo to the favorites count of someone else's photo but rather the favorites count of my own photos against each other...if I know the people who are my friends are adding my photos as favorites, I can be especially proud of those photos.

Plus, it would be incredibly easy to implement because all the data is easily accessible in the database.

I'm not worried.. I KNOW what people are like on here..

Like everything there is the good and the bad.. i've been here for awhile and have seen and know how some members react to certain things..

I'd like to see both...personally I wouldn't compare the favorites count of my photo to the favorites count of someone else's photo but rather the favorites count of my own photos against each other...

Unfortunately a lot of members on here don't look it that way, they will see it as some sort of popularity contest..

One of the "cons" would be certain members whining and complaining how with all the "good" comments there was only a couple of favs or no favs.. so then it would be endless threads of hurt and anger "why are people not faving my work when they fav others"

but... personally I like the idea of an added feature to see if someone did fav the image.. at least that way if someone does fav it, it means someone actually did like it.

Maybe, instead of a count, there could merely be a notification, so that the artist would know that someone liked their image, but it wouldn't be as likely to progress into a bad popularity contest.

Well, I think it's better than nothing and would be all for a notification.

If someone likes an image so much, hopefully they have commented on it & it takes nothing to type "into my fav's this goes".
That's what I do. Hope this helps some ;=)

I’m new to this site but here’s what I think of the C index.
It’s a nice tool for what it is: Counting votes on images without title, category and description. I used to organize photo contests and I would always assign 3 judges, a photo tech, an artist and one that knew very little about photography or art but could judge on what he liked. The C-index would be close to that if it also had the 3 criteria to help us vote.
Personally, when I check my Caedes Control it’s the Downloads vs. View that is my main concern because that’s why I uploads… to see my work appreciated and on someone else’s desktop. So if there was a DLS/View added, that would make my day.

I think that’s a 2 cents well place, don’t you? 8-)
