No C-Index yet, and no comments

I don't like Silhouettes very much, but I put one up anyway. I focused on the sky, and jacked down the exposure a touch to create that effect. If your monitor's bright, it won't look as good, but all three of mine show the trees as black. Actually, playing with my ancient but awesome Gateway VX900 CRT, I have to go about 7/8 of the way up in the brightness to ruin it, but normally I have the brightness a hair above minimum. On my IBM T84H 18.1" LCD, I can't really play because DVI locks out brightness control, but at the default it's black, and on my old Dell E551, it's black. If I had thought before, I might have darkened the trees more in Photoshop, but I didn't touch the picture at all, figuring it would be fine. We'll see anyway.

Garnet Mountain Silhouette

I am a huge fan of clouds .. I am not a cloud, but I play one on TV

your image seems to be tilting to the right .. I think several aspects of tree trunk and distant hills are contributing to the 'illusion' .. but I believe the horizon could be straightened a bit and then you'll have to re-crop the image out of the center

but, other than that, and the fact that it may have a wee bit more foreground than it needs ... I think you accomplished what you set out to do

personally .. I don't think too many voters, or downloaders, will ding you for this

I liked the clouds too. Honestly, they looked nowhere near as good in person until I took the picture, the focus just made them stand out very well.

Thanks for the input, looking at it now, I see what you mean by tilted to the right. I kind of wish I had a tripod up there to mess with some exposure settings and see what else I could do without having to hold the camera at the same time, but the only way up there is by mountain bike (painful and long) or by 4WD ATV, either way I wouldn't want to drag one up there, and I'm not sure theres a good place to set it. None of my shots are with a tripod anyway, most of these places make it nearly impossible to get a tripod to.

I agree that the foreground is a bit overkill too. Next time I'm up there I'll play with shots from a little higher to try to get a little more of the mountains.

There's too much brush in the way of the view that I wish wasn't there, it would be a gorgeous shot of the mountain ranges and horizon if I could get it. Maybe I'll poke around and see what I can find of other spots up there. There's also a mountain about two miles from this that has a 60 foot higher summit. To my knowledge, there's no way up the other one other than wandering through the woods. In the near future, I might take the quad around the trails near it and see if I can't find one that goes up there. It's not my quad though, it's my uncle's. Being 4WD, it'll go pretty much anywhere, which is nice.

Thanks for the comments, they are much appreciated!
