I'd like to initiate a contest. EVERYONE welcome to participate!
I challenge every interested artist to join in and submit their own original art, whether photography, digital art, or fractal, etc. By Urban Life I am looking for the capture of the essence of URBAN LIFE.....such as Homeless people, graffiti, nightlights of the city, {there are endless things one can capture or create}. It can be sad or happy, poor or wealthy, day or night. I think that fractalists can easily create impressionist style work that could depict a city at night or even some intergalactic city...just be creative! At this time I am asking *CAEDES to please appoint a gallery for contest if possible or can this just go under CONTESTS gallery, I guess?. I will update this thread if I do get a reply from him. I personally will pay a 6 month membership here on site to first place winner and 3 month membership for second place. { I will also have 3 HONORABLE MENTIONS -though mentioning may be all they get...:) I think I will set the deadline { Unless *Caedes wants to take over and suggest/set a different one, for December 31st 2007. Does 2 postings/submissions per artist and 1 submission {TEAM/COLLABORATIONS} sound fair? At this time, I am NOT clear on JUDGES for this contest. If *Caedes wants to join me, he can choose/elect judges. OTHERWISE....I will RANDOMLY choose judges, and keep in mind...judges will NOT be eligible to participate in art submission in contest.

Wrong? I see in your gallery 8 rejected images (4 identical cats, 2 identical manipulated cats and 2 police cars, ± same than your 'Untitled one').
If someone is wrong it's you by not accepting the basic rules of the CoC.
'Untitled one' was restored because it's a piece of the contest, but we'll be attentive to your next uploads.

Pierre chooses to communicate in public which is insensitive, and if he gets a public response he should not be surprised. The man's a bully who's been picking on me since Christmas, and I have every right to defend myself.
If we were properly communicated by pm's on sensitive issues this would have never happened.

Phil, hasn't this gone on long enough? Since you brought this into public forum, how can you object to being answered... publicly? This never would've happened if you hadn't made a stink, again, publicly.

Seeing how this thread is for a contest a member decided to voluntarily run, kindly show some respect, and let the thread be for it's original purpose.

I think you need to re-examine your own actions. You made this a public issue by immediately posting on this thread rather than sending a private message to any one of the mods. Pierre very civilly responded in public to your public question. Your response to this was to yell @ him that his answer wasn't good enough and would somebody who was intelligent answer the question.

A DIFFERENT consul warned you that it was unacceptable and disciplinary action would be taken if it continued. Your issue was resolved - and you came back and told Pierre that he and the other mods were wrong, thereby continuing this in public. Pierre again responded to you notifying you that apparently you have been continuing to try and upload rejected images or images that are only slightly changed from other images that are either in your gallery or have been rejected. This is a violation of the CoC - as you were told. Now you need to take responsibility for your actions.

Members are expected to accept mods decisions, and privately ask for help if they feel they have been misjudged. I read most of the message threads, and I'm really confused as to where you say that he's been after you since Christmas as I don't think I've really seen any communication between the 2 of you on any of the threads. For future: If you message a different mod to handle a problem from the beginning, it will be privately resolved without anyone else being able to jump in.

Terri, need some help? I think you've done a great job and shouldn't give your contest away, but I'm more than willing to chip in and do some of the work.

Apologies to anyone who had a contest entry mistakenly archived during our recent ‘mini sort out’ of the older images in the new gallery.

Phil: you asked publicly why your 'Untitled one' was rejected.
I answered in the same thread and you posted a shamed comment.
Your image was restored just because it's a contest upload (I didn't see it). That's all.
In the future, I ask you to respect the CoC. If not, we'll act again.

If you didn't want a response you shouldn't have brought it up in the forum pure & simple fact.. I'm not a mod, and even blind freddy can see that the response was NOT abusive in any way, it was a polite answer.. If you've been having an issue with Pierre you should have approached another mod in private..

The rule about re-loading images has ALWAYS been inplace, even if you wipe your gallery to leave for awhile you can't re-load it..

This is a wallpaper site you should ask yourself, if this was someone else's work would I want this on my desktop? can you honestly say that you would put this on your computer to see it day in day out? I think not..

Did it ever get a final decision on the deadline for contest? I am totally open with it being a public vote/decision, to give anybody who's interested a chance to join in.

Terri, as generous as that is, perhaps having one set date, even if it's pushed back, might keep things less complicated. Might also leave less chance for "debate"

This contest will come to a close on Feb 3rd and midnight EST. That gives you scallywags 2 weekends to get out there and get in any final entries before the chopping date. Judges are being chosen now and invitation pm's willl go out by the end of the week. If we choose you to be a judge you're not allowed to say no (unless you've participated in the contest - then you're not allowed to say yes to the oddball chance that we missed your entry and accidentally invited you).

Reminder - 2 individual submissions and 1 collaboration allowed per person. All image styles/categories welcome. If you have more than your 2 submissions in the gallery, finalize your decisions and weed the others out before chopping time or you will be disqualified. Rah Rah! (okay, that last part was a lil too obnoxious even for me. 8•P)

REMINDER: This contest will close Sun, Feb 3rd @ midnight est. PMs will be sent to judges by tonite.

What happened? Even with the deadline extended, there STILL wasn't a large amount of entries...Doesn't ANYONE like urban styles...anymore?

Just as a heads-up, my contest entries were archived... twice. Some others were as well, and while I got mine restored (thank you) some others might not have been. Maybe some might've withdrawn their entries out of disappointment or frustration.

To answer Ron, I'd like to be wrong, but sometimes it appears that on this site, if it (an image) isn't "pretty" it's not welcome or popular.

I checked the galleries the other night and they didnt appear to be any urban contest images archived at that time - if anyone thinks theirs has been by mistake - let us know.

I often checked it too. If some were archived, it was for a very short time.

All kidding aside, I know you guys are trying to stay on top of things. It's easy for some who might not realize that, to think they've been personally slighted. That's all I was trying to point out. Seriously.

Most people who are going to enter a contest will do so fairly early on so extending a deadline doesn't usually mean more entries.If you haven't gotten anything done within one or two weeks it probably means you aren't going to pull your finger out and get an entry in :-P

I take exception to that! The 2 contests I entered, it took me more than 2 weeks to get my entries finished, one of them didn't get done literally until the deadline! You pessimist you!

i hate to sound like a fool but i didn't even know there was a contest. i would have loved to submit. how did all of YOU find out. in reading this thread which was started (i think) a year ago it was mentioned but where's the notice of the particular contest?

It started in November, and I'm guessing that most, if not all of us found out about it the way I did.. by reading about it.. right here.

It's not an official contest Jen, sponsored by Caedes himself. It was thought of by Terri, so it was put here, on this forum. Unless you normally scan this forum you wouldn't know about it hon.

I never come over here & I had no clue this was even going on until several weeks ago when someone said something to me. So there's no way you could've known about it if you don't normally come to this forum, unless someone had sent you a PM.

But if you do check this forum out, then I'm sure you probably just missed the thread.
