i recently lent my camera to my younger brother. he fell over while using it and got dirt on the lens then wiped it off with his dirty finger leaving dirt and finger prints on the lens. what is the best way to clean them off? the lens doesn't look scratched just dirty and finger printed.
Has the dirt dried on? If indeed you want to do this yourself*, get a lens cleaning kit, or pre-moistened wipe. As any pressure on the dirt may cause scratching, let the wipe or moistened cloth sit on the dirt for a minute to loosen it a bit. Gently (key word here) move the cloth over the lens without applying any pressure. Once all dirt is visibly gone, give the lens a second application with a clean wipe, or section of cloth. When you're done, very gently "buff" dry the lens.
Don't use a paper towel, as most of them are coarse enough to scratch a lens, or tissue, which will leave a crap load of lint.
*Might want to have a camera shop at least look at it first...
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
