In the past two weeks when I try to get on Caedes it takes approx 5 minutes to load a page. I'm on pokey Dial-Up but, before the pages use to load in a few seconds. Are you having a problem with your server?

the last we heard from *caedes, he said he was working on the server

as a fellow DU'er .. I feel your pain .. but there is a lot that comes into play with "teh interwebs" that we fail to take it all into consideration ..

all those little 'packets' flitting about in the ether .. it's easy for the servers in Hoboken, New Jersey to be a bottleneck to our enjoyment .. and we not realize it

that, or the number of snapshots lately

On the other hand last nite I thought my wireless connection had gone dead because Caedes is the homepage on this computer and I was getting no response. The problem seems to come and go, and last nite was hopefully due to the Great Eye working on the servers. 8•P

While I'm also on the 56K dail-up brigade I must admit that I haven't had any problems. As Keifer stated in the most marvelous explanation of the TCP/IP protocol I've ever heard, it could be a bottleneck from your ISP or various other sources.

The other option could be that you are so unlucky to try to visit the site when all the database backing upping is in progress (sorry, I just read a Robert Rankin book!)... which could also cause the pages to load slowly, or timeout.

My bet would however be on some tangle or the other in the "interwebs"...

I'm betting the slowdown is caused by all of us REJECTING SNAPSHOTS!!!!!

it's been sporatic for me ever since I've joined. since that time, I've been on three different networks, and four different computers. onesecond thesite will be lightning quick, the next, a page will hang for minutes at a time.

And Regmar... I'd certainly like to think so ;-)

Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.

The actual secret would be to try to use the site when all the people from the US are fast asleep. That way the site will be lightning fast. So just remember to set your alarm clock for 3am (or whatever the appropriate time would be for your timezone) and enjoy the fruits of your labor when there's only 15 people online! :-P

The site is generally pretty fast unless you happen to catch it when the backup is happening or when we are calculating the c-index. This all happens some time late in the night (for the US). I've been working on speeding up the site, and I've made great improvements in the responsiveness for normal daytime (US) activity, but the nighttime stuff is still really slow. It will be the next optimization that I'll do.

*sob sob... typical.. us at the other end of the world gets the slow time.. ;) i'm kidding.. I don't have a problem with speed when US is asleep.
