There is an excellent site for Win98 but I haven't used it for years (because I use XP now). I think it was called desktop theme doctor? Or something similar. It had themes which included startup and shutdown screens, wallpaper, color schemes, customised icons and sounds and pointers and everything...

Aha! I found it: http://themedoctor.com/

Wich Startup screen do you mean? You want to change the original windows image wich you get after the 'dos' startup? Try Booteditor:
http://www.belchfire.net/~userxp or http://userxp.tripod.com

the startup screen for windows is a file that can simply be replaced with a bitmap image.

another thing, there isn't a logo.sys in my windows directory but the startup screen is still there. The files are all unhidden so I don't know why this is happening. Any suggestions would be much appreaciated....well you know what I mean.

if my memory serves me, logo.sys was in c:\ with io.sys and msdos.sys, no?
If not I'm not sure. The original windows logo is composed of more than just the bitmap, hence the animation at the bottom that cant be reproduced by replacing the bitmap.

Its been a long time...
