I see Canon has made an IS version of the 18-55mm kit lens that usually comes with the Rebel. Has anyone used it/know someone/read a review on it? I am thinking of replacing my kit lens with it. its basically the same thing with the IS, so its not too much $.

Canon Kit lenses are notoriously mediocre. My advice would be to flog the kit lens on ebay (I actual got more for it than its new list price. Got to love that) and invest in a better EF-S lens if your budget will stretch to it (the EF-S lens you are referring to is about 3 times the price of the kit lens) or the perennial favourite among Rebel users, a Tamron AF 18-250mm Di-II

The Canon 18-55mm kit lens seems to work best at f/8 and f/11. I was never happy with it and wished I had gotten a better Canon lens to start. I can't imagine that adding IS would make it a better lens. Do some research. Lensplay.com and Fredmiranda.com offer some reviews from users and others.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes
