Why does it seem to take so long for an uploaded image to appear
anymore? Sometimes two or three hours before viewable?

Just because it must be approved by an ImageMod.
We are a few on the site and some are working, or sleeping, or... ;-)

I've heard of this phenomenon before, but, sorry...can't say I've ever experienced it before. Generally my uploads appear within an hour, usually WAY less.

The mods are busy with life and the pursuit of happiness, when time allows!! 8~) Give it some time, it'll happen!!

Sometimes "The Man" gives'em a break...to eat pancakes!! That's just the word I hear anywho!!

....just do what I do, upload your shots right before you go to sleep. They'll be ready and waiting for ya when you get up!!

Also it depends on which time zone you fall in. You might be one of the unlucky ones that upload in an interval where the "horde" of international imagemods are either at work (and NO Caedes isn't work) or fast asleep!

i'm having trouble just getting them to upload. i fill out the upload page, and then appox. 20 min later i get a grey screen with a white caedes.net window at the top with no instructions in it. any suggestions?

Your 'Collide-o-scope' seems correctly uploaded though.

Whenever that has happened to me I have had a problem with the size of the post. Anything over 10MB does not seem to go through. Check the size of the upload.

Rich is right in that the server(s) some times ... time out ... before the image has been uploaded.

Just an f.y.i. ... there is no size limitation on files. However, as Rich pointed out ... 10 MB seems to be the magical number. Unless, that is ... you have a T1 or better connection.

You might find that one time of day might be better for uploading for you.

My images take a while to show up too. So i do what Stephen suggested... only setback about it is I sneak on at work to see whats going on because I can't wait till I get home I use that minimize button like my life depends on it.

Tip of the day...wait till you see a mod in the users online before you upload. And make sure it is a reasonable image if I'm online;-)

Thank you for the tip Darryl, I have no complaints about how long it takes, I think the Mods are doing a great job, they should all take a week vacation at the same time, and make everyone go into Caedes withdrawal.

Vacating mods sounds like a great idea...any time preferences?

On a serious note... if you're looking at the list of members signed in, hit "refresh" to see if they're actually still here, or you'll waiting on someone who's no longer around.

I timed the wait, for images to be 'processed' today...I could'nt comment on my 'friends' work for 8½ hours!...and in that time, there were four mods visited the site via 'Show Users Online'...

This is not once, but has happened most of last week...

A simple question.... .. .. 'Why'?

Mods are keeping the bandwith for their own works... ;-)

I too have wondered why the wait has increased so much. Sometimes I have to wait until next day to respond. Have to sleep you know. I'm with Dunstickin on the Why?

here's an idea.. ask those mods directly (and privately). maybe you won't get an answer you'll like, but it beats guessing.

That happened to me last nght...i posted my photo "docked" about 10 PM last night and there were two mods online but the photo took till about 11:30 to appear on the site.

FYI, the mods do way more than upload images. They are responsible for maintaining the galleries, promoting to the perms,, archiving etc. So, seeing one 'online' does not necessarily mean that they are just hanging out. 95% of the time, they are actually doing something to keep the site maintained per *caedes directive.

I also need to ask this (meaning no offense to anyone at all)...why is the time it takes to see an uploaded image so important?

I am just curious, that is all...no other reason. Just call me nosy, it's OK :o) my hubby does all the time!.....lolol)

Let Third Eye Deadeye Rob have it. I don't see the need for stirring things up when a simple answer was all that was needed. I've seen too many shouting matches on other topics and don't see the purpose. When it changes from fast uploads to half fast uploads, people wonder why. Not necessarily a complaint. That's my case anyway.

Remember also that just because someone is shown as "online" it doesn't actually mean they are at their PC. I know I have occasionally left mine on all night with my browser open when I was asleep.

I'll simplify my answer. If you're wondering what a mod if doing, ask them, was basically all I'm suggesting. giving yourself heartburn over what I said isn't worthwhile.
