One that came out recently on DVD, Enchanted. A cute kids movie that I liked way more than I expected to.
Not too recent, but also wonderful are: The Prestige (Hugh Jackman, Christian Bale...); Big Fish (made in 2003, Ewan McGregor); and The Notebook (made in 2004, Rachel McAdams).
I just watched "Across the Universe"...wow...that had some surprising things in it. A lot like the rebellious SIXTIES. The guy who did most of the Beatles songs was outstanding! But I think there was too much "mushy" stuff in it. I heard that Paul McCartney got a private showing of this movie and said it was well done. So that's good. It was a bit too much like a musical. But still, the songs were great to hear, but almost weird to hear some of them done by women..instead of the good ol' Beatles...but it was worth watching.
Movies!!! I love movies! :) Dare I make a list?
Hmm, let's just start with "Requiem for a Dream." Anyone seen it?
This movie just blew me away when I first saw it, Ellen Burstyn is fantastic! And the music, the tension, the the....ahh, love Darren Aronofsky. (Perhaps I should note that the movie is NOT for the faint of heart)
"O Brother Where Art Thou" is great Tick ! You're so right. But a must see movie if you like Motown & I DO is "Dreamgirls". It's fantastic ! Based on early Motown & the rise of the Supremes & starring Beyonce Knowles & introducing Jennifer Hudson it's incredible. And Jennifer Hudson steals the show with her amazing voice. You have got to see this movie !
Darren Aronofsky?! is this the director of The Fountain and "Pie" (don't have the symbol on my keyboard) also? Or am I wrong? I own "Pie", I'll have to re-watch it sometime, it's hard to take everything in at once. I couldn't really decide if I liked it or not, but it has a very unique style, and if you can wade through the confusion, it's a really interesting film. As for The Fountain, my brother and I have been in an ongoing debate since seeing the movie a while ago whether it was a masterpiece or a failure. I didn't care for it at all, but he thought it was genius. I suppose I should re-watch that one also...
Yes, all Aronofsky's movies do well to be seen more than once! Pi was great, but I am on the fence about the Fountain also...I need to re-watch it as well! He has three new movies in the works, according to IMDB. But I'm not sure they'll be "typical" Aronofsky movies from what I can tell by the plot synopsis...have to wait and see!
