ok, almost all the girls on the Romania's gymnastic team are pretty. There are these 3 that look EXACTLY the same... why is that? They each have different last names too, so they arnt related... But anyway, i thought that was interesting.

apparently this time around there is a record amount of cheating with the most positive doping tests than any other event so far.

Maybe the testing is just better than in the past, so there is the same amount of cheating but they are just catching more of them... a good thing I think.

This has got to be one of the strangest discussions yet...but I noticed it too. Also, I think Carly Patterson and Courtney Kupets look alike. It took me awhile to figure out that they are two different people.

I think they are probably encouraged to look alike, to conform and keep the judges happy.

With regard to the doping, I think it is just the case that the anti-doping people are getting much stricter and much smarter.

=? How do you encourage people to look alike???

By getting them to wear their hair the same way, have the same awful make-up on, etc

Speaking of clones, did any of you notice how much alike those two American guys look? Paul Hamm and Morgan Hamm? Now that's almost frightening how similar they are! Talk about sharing genes!

Seriously, though, take a look at some of the bios on NBCOlympics.com. While the Romanians do look slightly different, they all share the same uniform, hairstyle, makeup, and (nearly) age. It's also not uncommon for people from the same country to share similar features, though this is much less noticable in the US since there is such a diverse background to the population.

Yeah i agree with you Xentik, but you still gotta admit, those 3 romanian girls look EXEPTIONALLY similiar...
And about Paul and morgan, they DO look very simliar, lol. I think morgan has lighter hair though.. I guess you know this, but they are twins.

I'm jumping in here to say that at one point they did say that all the Romanian gymnasts live together...always! They eat, sleep, dream, and live gymnastics as one. The coach said there are no "leaders" among them and that's how he trained them. That is certainly how they performed too.
I have a gymnast. The bulk of our money there does go toward the look alike syndrome. Ninety percent of the parents bawlk at this and have never really received any good explanation to their "why?" questions, but when it comes to a little girl's dream, what can you do? Some of it is "go with the flow" and the rest is damage control at home. The other 10% of the parents that don't question look strangely like their gymnast offspring! Go figure. Those are usually the parents who have their child in it for their own pleasure not the childs. ;(
For me, telling the chinese gymnasts apart was the most difficult this year. Both male and female.

I'm her mother. Of course she is! ;) She has some trophies, medals, etc. and is the tumbler on her cheer squad. She is hoping right now to put her hopes into a medical career. First, it's get through High School one day at a time. That's enough. ;0

lol...mine too! Have no idea where she got it from but she was flippin' pre-birth and when she was tiny she loved the grocery store and all those long aisles. She never walked through with me, she cartwheeled. She contains herself some now. Those bag boys you know...different priorities...sighhhhhh.
