Ok, just checking this out ... you do have to provide an email address and click to ignore 'email alerts' ... "No thanks", at the bottom of the window dialogue that pops up when you click on the "Download Now!" button on the page.

We'll see what happens on the spam front. Just an f.y.i.., as I googled 'sitepoint spam' and of course ... some hits came back.

I downloaded it a few days ago and provided a 'second' email address I use for such things. There is so much spam arrives in it it is hard to judge of there has been any more. I said 'no thanks' then I got a message saying "hey not so fast" and something about visiting their sponsors.
I may have to get PS out of mothballs now.

Ok, not too bad on the download front. High speed cable:

62.8 MB in 2 minutes and 12 seconds. Average rate - 486 KB/sec.

I made mention of possible spamming Lyn, in case some are not as savvy in having a 'dummy email folder' of sorts.

I'll apprise the thread if this turns out to be such an instance. Or ... er, instances. :oP

Ok, so far nothing on the spam front.

And I finally had a chance to take a look at the 'book'. In particular, Chapter Six, as mentioned above.

Easy to understand. Screenshots accompany the explanations. Fairly well laid out.

And in skimming some other sections not specifically targeted to web page design and even then, much of the information imparted and learned stuff is transferrable ... I say ... 'thumbs up'.

Good good stuff as a primer. :o)

I probably won't go for it as I've got a digital photography book by Tom Ang. I haven't had time to look at it properly yet, but I paid £10 for it in a charity shop (£25 new), then a few days later saw another copy on a coffee morning stall for 50p.

Aaargh!!

Les, I have a hotmail account just for things like this. They can send all the spam they like to that one without upsetting me one bit.

Sitepoint is a pretty respected site, so if you didn't sign up for any of the newsletters during the download process you should be fine as far as spam goes. However it is always a good idea to have a "throw-away" email address to use for any of these online offers.

What can I say ... I like to live dangerously. :oD

Usually my Yahoo email addy gets thrown into the mix when it is a very iffy proposition.

This was done, so I could track any ne'er do well behaviour on Sitepoint's behalf. And then apprise any unsuspecting members on the site here.

And KJ is correct, the googling I did do only had some sporadic hits mentioning spam.

That said ... thanks for the tips and information. :o)
