What is the c-index?
The c-index is a number between zero and 100 that aims to give a rough idea of the quality of an image. The primary use of the c-index is to enable users to sort galleries in order to bring the best images to the top. It is also used when automatically selecting images for displaying on the homepage. The c-index is not used to decide whether or not an image is promoted to the permanent image collection nor whether the image gets deleted (although it may be used to help the Praetors find good images worthy of permanent status).
Why is the c-index for my image lower than I think it should be?
The c-index is updated once every 24 hours. You'll notice that the c-index isn't displayed for an image until the image has recieve 5 votes. If the image gets five votes before the c-index has updated, then the c-index will probably have an unrealistic value {like zero) until the c-index is calculated for the first time. '
the important bit to remember is the fact that whilst the votes update immediately in your control panel - the score doesn't. hence the frequent howls of protest in the past as to why an images score changes dramatically after only 1 vote. which it doesn't. so basically it is the average score based on the votes cast in the Voting Booth.

the score is the average out of a 100 based on all of the votes cast on your image once they have updated. the RCI basically the same but relates only to other images in the gallery you uploaded to instead of all the galleries as a whole.
