I for one could care less about other people's pets, or their kids. I come to this site for art and good photography, not photos of pets! Let's get Caedes back to what it ought to be, which is NOT a family photo album.
indeed - part of the agreement you make when you upload a photo is that you do not use the site as a facility to share family photos. that's what God invented Flickr & Photobucket for.
If thats the case then why don't the mods just reject them?
Don't get me wrong I don't enjoy those kind either unless they are artistically done, but I have seen a lot get through that are "snapshots".. eg these are not snapshots linklinklink
Then of course, we also have a significant amount of uploaders who completely ignore the community pets gallery created for these images and try to pass them off under the radar as animal studies, manipulations, reworks, still life’s, holiday shots etc etc and will often cry foul if these shots are then either rejected or moved into the community gallery. In this instance I will generally just archive the shots immediately if it’s a repeat offender.
I think this thread should be called "Other people's junk".
I've posted pet shots, sorry if I got'em in the wrong gallery Uncle Phil.
I'm sure it's tough on MOD's as to what gets thru and what doesn't. But, back to my point between "pets" and "junk"...what really is art??
Really, lOOk through the first page or two of new images and see if you could pick five (5) that you'd use as something to hang on your wall, a card / postcard, etc. It's tough for me to find five!! Other than pets you have people just whippin' out the camera and 'click' with no real thought...yes, I've done it just like everyone here!!
Jacqueline: Caedes himself asked to don't reject 'half' snapshots, but just to archive them.
If I look at the Photography->pets gallery, I think that all permed photos are wonderful, isn't it?
Note: the last permed pets capture is 19th june 2008...
Actually, my policy on pet photos is, If there's any artistic element to the photo - good composition, photoshop effects, etc. I leave the photo in the "New Images" gallery bound for the "Photography - Pets" gallery. The majority of the pet shots are however, what I call, "Look at my adorable-worable pet!" photos. If they're in focus and not otherwise an atrocity I put them immediately in the "your Community - Pets" gallery. The rest are rejected. This site is not a social networking site, and we will be diligent in ensuring that it remains oriented to artistic images. If your image doesn't make the cut then you probably didn't spend much time on it.
In response to Randy, we aren't trying to be elitist in what we allow into the site. We all have to learn somehow, and teaching artistic design is part of the mission of Caedes. Because of that I'd be surprised to find one in every five pages of the "New Images" gallery that I'd hang on my wall. That doesn't mean we should reject the other images. They need to get exposure too.
Ummmm i wasn't saying that the mods should monitor the snapshots better.. or was i saying that they should be rejected.. I was actually just saying that if they were just a "oooh look at my pup/kitten lying on a chair" type of pic then it should be classed as a snapshot.. I also think that if its a "snapshot" then a helpful criticism should be given to show the artist on how to improve from a snapshot to an artist shot ;)
Pierre.. All the images in that gallery are very well done the ones i linked are my personal favs + a few others which I didnt mention also in the people gallery there are fantastic pics in there..
Reg.. I know that you place most of them in the community gallery..
Randy.. just remember one persons junk is another persons treasure ;)
Oh darn, and I had an adorable-worable pet pic to upload! Now I am not sure if it is artistic enough lol
If pets are not wanted why not scrap the Pet Gallery and just have an Animal one where they can all be compared together.
To each his own - some people LIKE pet pics.
I don't come here for car pictures but I get them - no problems.
Many do not come here for flowers - but they get them.
Look at and appreciate what you like.
I agree - the permed gallery of Pet images hold some excellent work.
There are snapshots uploaded to all galleries - I would prefer a good pet pic to a boring uninteresting poorly executed image that is uploaded as a 'landscape' - and there are plenty of them. As always beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
