Hi there!
This suggestion came to my mind today, that is upload related.
How about considering an optional upload limit, that would be seven images for free members a week, or fourteen for Cadre members. I think there are some people out there not having time during the week to make and post their images.
Well... we already have it set at 1 image upload a day for all Caedes members and 2 image uploads a day for the Cadre Members, which is pretty much the same amount as you are suggesting. Having it set by a daily quota keeps from us from being bombarded with uploads on the weekends and almost no uploads during the rest of the week, for example.
Not that I have had much time lately to upload anything.. but some days i'd love to be able to upload 3 or 4 on the one day that I have free.. I do think its a great suggestion but as Piner said there will be a bombardment of uploads and the mods also have real lives too..
First, I would like to say thank you for the suggestion. It does have some merit and may be something that deserves a closer look.
My intial thought was that, perhaps, a premium of sorts could be attached to allowing those members that desire this option (small increase in Cadre donations, and/or introducing another 'level' of membership, for example)?
/\ Why an increase, in either case?
For those reasons mentioned by Tom above.
As a web programmer, I suspect that you can appreciate that traffic to a site, and consistency in that traffic throughout the days of the week ... is important to a site's overall well-being and growth and retention of visitors.
So, in my mind ... your idea represents a trade-off between that of satisfying and implementing your idea and keeping the site's best interests at heart at the same time.
Have a question for you, if I may ...
Let's suppose your idea is incorporated/implemented. And some members follow suit and do as you are suggesting.
Would you accept the possibility of your newly posted images being on page ten, twenty ... whatever ... it would most certainly change the dynamics as they sit now ... and almost as soon as your images were posted, in conjunction and in queue with other images were posted within a 'busy' time (read; weekends here)?
/\ This was and has been a sore point in the past with some members.
Do you have something in mind that might mitigate this, or temper these occurences?
I suggest that the "bulk" uploaded pictures be put into an approved pool as approved and then moved into the new gallery one or two per day. Perhaps an automated move as scheduled device could be created? Or perhaps turn it around the other way and rout the uploaded images to the mods for approval one or two per day. This way the load would still be balanced through the week. A little automated feed back to the artist letting them know which are approved and which are in cue would keep them informed and happy?

What are your thoughts about that?
