I'm currently using windows 7 ultimate x64. I have 2GB RAM. My idle memory usage is about 700-900MB without running any apps (except for antivirus). I've been wondering how much Memory does the Windows 7 ultimate x86 edition consume? If you are running 32 bit windows 7, please give your screenshot of your task manager at the performance tab. Please close all apps before you do so. I want to recommend win7 to my friends but i doubt that if they would be able to run Win7 on 1GB and having enough free memory to run apps.

Thank you for your time, thank you for everyone who supports the forums and thank you for the forum moderator ( must be hard to manage all these offtopic post )

Rather than relying only on amount of memory in your friends' PCs, perhaps you could suggest they download and run a simple test available from Microsoft that checks out their whole system for a potential upgrade to W7:

Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor

So I have to put this to my friends' PC? But what if they dont have an operating system yet? I mean, they just buy a new PC?
It's very funny that The Upgrade advisor can support Windows 7. Running an operating system to know that your machine will support the OS you're running.

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64,it is useful if you have 4 Gigs of ram or more otherwise if you have less than 4 Gigs of ram then use Windows 7 x86 instead.

If you have a recent computer then it can run Windows 7 but if you have an older computer then it is better to use Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor.

I'm sorry? I don't get the second part.

But I'm use x64 on 2GB and works fine. No problem. My concern is that I want to get the most out of my PC no matter what OS I'm running. (This mistake happens to Vista once)

I mean a recent computer (recent hardware) works with Windows 7,if you have an older computer then you could have problems so that is why it is better to run Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor if you have an older computer.

Keep in mind that 2 Gigs of ram is a minimum if you use Windows 7 x64,it is better to use 4 Gigs of ram with Windows 7 x64.

Can i ask what kind of computer you have?

Of course you can. I'm using Dell Vostro 1310, Intel C2D T5670 1.8Ghz.
Yeah, I knew my computer isn't much but it serves me well.

Your computer is quite good,it is a laptop, you should add 2 GB of ram if you can.Do you have an NVidia graphics card?

No. My spec states that I use Intel GMA X3100. I'm planning to buy a better laptop soon.
