The first record I ever bought with my own money was "Mr Custer" by Charlie Drake (a British comedian). This was in 1960 when I was 7.

I don't remember the first "45" I bought. Probably something by the Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, or The Temptations. But the first "album" I bought was Light My Fire by the Doors (I still have it and have no anyway to play it!).

(1961).... a bunch of us who went to school together would put the 45 record on & call each other right at midnight on the 16th birthday and play it over the rotary dial phone attached to the wall with a very short cord.....oh my, those were the days!. . . . . . . sad, isnt' it? :-)
