How about a Comment Gallery? You could go to see the latest comments as they pop up in a kind of "what's new" section. :-) They could be linked back to the image that the comment is about.

I don't know if it would be any use or not.

You, know, that could offer a little bit of encouragement to post more interesting comments . . .

Combining the O(.riginal) P(.ost) of Tootles'.. and Hannah's interpretation/application of it ... interesting idea.

Now if only there were a way, in addition to.. to determine the 'most talked about'/'most commented on' image and list some of the more 'interesting' comments/feedback and then link back to the image itself.

In the above and at it's roots (as I see and understand the suggestion).. is the idea that an image that generated comments outside the 'norm' ... might include some tips, advice, et al.

And be worthy reading and/or interesting to visitors. Let alone the image itself.

Or.. possibly be topical for their genre of art.

And so forth.

Word count per comment(s) alone, might work.

Total number of comments for any given image, probably not so much.

The Caedesian Critiques you mention are the ideal... I don't know if we could keep to that level all the time. :-) Anyway, anything that piques the curiosity of other members (and visitors) should bring more traffic to this image or that.

Another thing, when I just look at the discussion forums, there is often little activity... it can seem deathly quiet here to anyone who's not part of the grapevine. If we had a comment gallery with new ones popping up all the time, it might help to combat that impression.

Well, you know what I always say.. 'aim high, settle for mediocrity!'

Agreed.

Something working towards stimulating interest AND to the point, perhaps.. 'discussion' in and amongst the community/membership with respect to images.

Interesting :)
Could comments be a roll over of all comments (could be very boring), randomly selected, chosen by 'someone', or entered by the comment receiver (if they consider it helpful, amusing, interesting etc, but of course NEVER to promote ones own image - how could that be overcome I wonder. Possibly by another member noticing it and placing it in the gallery)
Word count? Quantity does not always equate with quality.

Perhaps the idea could be extended to discussion board Thread titles as well

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I like the thought of including the discussion comments... it might attract a bit more attention than the discussions usually get. Maybe instead of the comments themselves being displayed, it could be 'hottest topic'.... though I'm guessing most of the time that would be TPBM!

I'm not sure how to keep bland comments from showing up, but I think that happens on Facebook anyway (I hope my FB friends don't read this!)
