ok. tell me how viable this is...

what if there was a screen that popped up immediately after a person filled in their new member information. this page could contain possibly, oh i don't know... directions on how to pronounce caedes! along with faq's concerning karma, etc. you know, the biggies.

also, and i'm not sure this is a good idea or not, but maybe it could also filter attempted memberships by those who refuse to enter any information at all and are just looking to acquire a trendy (or profane...) screenname.

That first part is an interesting idea. It might cut down on the number of questions we get. What exactly do you mean by filtering attempted memberships? How would it be able to do that?

actually, i may have mis-spoke... i guess i was thinking that the initial membership process would be a good time to apply a filter such as the one i was describing. not so much that a welcome page, in and of itself, could perform such a function.

i just know that sometimes i'll glance over at the "users online" area, and see some really profane or defamatory screen name, and if you go to their page, all you see are a bunch of blanks for their personal information.

it seems if they were serious about the site or art or whatever, they would at least take the time to furnish false names and information. sorry for the confusion. :)

There really isn't a feasible way to do that with a program. Blacklist filters like that just don't work. What we've decided to do is to make it easy to complain about such usernames by adding a 'complain' link to all the user profile pages.

i love the icon! its great! i tried, but yours is better. does this mean caedes icon will spruce up for the holidays???
i think the welcome screen for newbies is a good idea. i also had a look at that spynet whatever other site that people were ripping off caedes stuff and this place is head and shoulders above that place.
