Well, growing up near Dallas...and am still there....I grew up listening to SRV. He was amazing. One of the great ones, imo. Everytime I hear one of his songs on the radio...and you hear him quite often in my parts - I crank it up because I know it's going to be good.

I just woulda given a lot to have known about him long ago, imagine going to one of his concerts!! So sad hed died at such a young age, such a loss for the world of Bloozy music. I have most of his albums...an it's great to know that his stuff is played so much still in Texas...I imagine they have dedicated a statue to him somewhere too. Would be interesting to find out. I love the websites of his. I've gotten some GREAT videio and DVDs from Ebay...love to watch those! Thank you both ...so much for responding. Was so curious if anyone know of his music..Hope there will be more responses. We can all "live life by the drop"...........smiling

Stevie Ray. Yes indeed, he is the pre-requisite for the rock / blues 101.
My favorites are , boot hill, may I have a talk with you, and the sky is crying.

Stevey was influenced by his older brother Jimmie Vaughn. In 1972, he dropped out of high school and played blues guitar in Austin, Texas. He waas born in Dallas on 10-3-54 and died 8-27-90. He got a big break when David Bowie in 1982, asked him to play on the song, " Let's Dance." He was a lead singer with the band Double T and died in a helicopter crash. I loved his song " Pride and Joy."

Oh my God!!! Stevie Ray Vaughn kicks ass...Couldn't Stand The Weather...best album. I had the priveledge to see him in concert in 1984. I have an amazing copy of him with Carlos Santana...talking about fire!!! Two of the worlds best jammin together. To this day, when I need to relieve stress and chill, I fire up a Stevie album, crack open a cold one, and just sit back and jam the night away. It was a sad day indeed when his copter went down...we lost Bill Grahm and Stevie Ray Vaughn...the person who brought us incredible concerts and the person who made inredible music.

Bryan Adams opened for Stevie who opened for the Police on their Synchronicity tour (their last one)...Aloha Stadium, Honolulu 1984...the stadium was packed and I managed to get to the front...I was 15...my dad put me on his shoulders so I was level with the stage...ripped off Bryan Adams back Levi's pocket, got a guitar pick handed to me by Stevie himself (talk about being MY Pride and Joy) and got a handshake from Sting. It was the first concert I ever went to, and it will forever be burned in my memory!!!

Young woman, and YES...the concert was the most amazing one I've been too. And I've been to a lot of great concerts (and backstage too). Maybe it was because it was my first, maybe it's because I was raised on Blues, who knows...but I will NEVER forget it!!! And I still have my SRV guitar pick.

Sorry Akashastrega for the error. Young woman. It sounds like someone made sure that you experienced the wonderful world of music. I like to see people into more than just one type of music and knowledgable about a variety of music genres and who influenced whose music.

OHHHHH my!!!!!..........what a dream come true, to have seen SRV even at such a young age....but i would be the BEST concert to EVER go to...I went to Santana concert a couple years ago...and the ONLY one who could even come close to that one would be Stevie....he was and is still tops. I cant even imagine BOTH of them in ONE place, I would have never slept again..HEHEh..it was horrible when I finally read bout his death. What a LOSS to the Blooz(Blues) people, a loss to the world!!! And then Bryan Adams ...he is also ONE person I love his music to pieces!! Such a voice! mmmmmh !!! I have a dear friend in Aussie , we met online, and finally we met in SanFrancisco...we drove the little streets in my little red car..windows down and playing Bryan Adams...(its kind like "our" music ya know?!)... I cant even begin to imagine going to that concert tooo! What a vedry fortunate person you are...you got Bryan Adams back jean pocket? OH MY GOSH! PLUS a guitar pick from Stevie??!!!!!!!! I would be wearing it around my neck encased in silver!!!!!Sting? I have gone to his concert too...great performer for sure. But to have them all in one place..gosh that must have just set you on fire!! I always went to a ton of concerts...nowadays I cant go as much..but the ones I went to were fabulous...Being raised with the BLUES...is faNtastic. Do yoiu play an instrument? I have been trying to teach myself how to play Bloozey(Bluesey) drums...but gosh I hate the bass drum!! LOL
This was such great stuff for you to tell us about...thank you SO MUCH..
I have several great videos of Stevie that I bought on ebay...its so nice to watch him..and yes it is the best kinda medicine...I bought the DVD of Santanas "new: album a couple years ago too...its wonderful to see also...
I am a lover of all sorts of music...I was born in Germany..came to USA when I was ten..all my family is from Germany...so I love Classical also...and tons of other great music....
I would love to keep in touch with all of you ....its just great to have people who relate to SRV.........I just cannot imagine seeing him in person..that has to have been the biggest excit\ment ever! . I thank each of you for replying here. This all sure made my day today....
By the way how did you get a copy of SRV and Sanana? ared there others? I LOVE his song....LIVING LIFE BY THE DROP!!

The guitar duel in the film Crossroads with Steve Vai/Stevie Ray is mind blowing. :)

Shame Ralph Macchio can't mime playing a guitar to save his life though...

The song is called traffic jam, it was done in 1979 here is a link to get the song:

http://rapidshare.de/files/4272750/stevie_ray_vaughn___carlos_santana_-_traffic_jam__extremely_rare_1979_.mp3.htm

(copy and paste this url into your web browser when RapidShare pops up, click free, wait about 30 seconds and you will get a direct download link...just save to your pc file that you keep your tunes and rock out!!!)

this is a clean mp3...it comes direct from my pc and has no bugs/spyware...fire it up and jam out to Stevie and Carlos. Enjoy!!!!!

Am I the only one who thinks Vaughan is overrated? I have noticed he uses old jazz and blues riffs and pieces them together as roughly as possible. I'd like him more if he would blend them better and for that reason I don't think he is that creative.

ieliles...I think at least with this group you are the only one who thinks that. Stevie Ray Vaughn was fantastic and died before his time...but man what a great bunch of music he left behind.
