Astrophotography

Has anyone done any astrophotography? I'm thinking of taking a special interests photography course and using that as my project theme. I've looked at the DSI by Meade and pretty much looked past it as a 1/4 of a megapixel doesn't seem to be enough. I have however thought of purchasing SLR camera adapters for my telescope . . . has anyone had any luck with this technology? BTW - I have a Meade Reflecting telescope...

I did look at a Canon 20DA for fixing to my Meade but then I saw the price and stopped looking - I'm still not sure what the drawbacks are of using a regular DSLR over the special Astrophotography model so I'd be interested to learn more too.
