Some Images Don't Download

I don't know if I'm alone in this problem, but several times each day I click on a thumbnail image (usually in the "New Images" gallery), and the page opens, all the information displays, but the image remains blank - no error, and the page says it has downloaded completely. If I hit F5 to refresh the page the same thing happens regardless of the number of times I try to refresh the page. Today the problem is occurring with MadMaven's "This Sucks!" image. If I click on the blank square to try to open the image full-size, It opens the browser, and starts downloading. The little blue bar creeps across the bottom of the (Mozilla) browser's status bar, then it stops at about 70% and never completes. I can close all browsers, clear my cache, restart my browser, and try again and I receive the same result. If I try again later in the day I am usually able to open the image normally.

Has this happened to anyone else? If so it's a website issue, and we should notify our noble leader. Otherwise it's my problem, and I'll just have to resolve it myself.

In an appendix, I just tried to navigate from here to open the image again, and I got the same result - no image, but the browser says everything opened fine.

I think it depends on the speed of your connection? I know when mine is slow the browser often gives up half way through loading the image. I don't think refreshing does any good unless you empty the cache as the browser has already stored the faulty image there and just keeps loading the same one?

ISurprisingly I actually tried clearing my cache, history, cookies, and downloads then shutting down the bowser and even the workstation, then restarting and I still encounter the problem. In fact I encountered the problem while running IE 6.0 as well, so the issueisn't restricted to Mozilla. On my system at work (sheepish grin) I encountered the problem, and they only let us use IE. I'd have thought that way over there in Australia, your connection would be pretty slow eh? What with all the wallabies chewing on the lines?

Well tell them not to do that sam. This site is getting pretty big, and if we are going to have problems just because someone can't hold a can straight, we might need to find a new system.

Its time for a new sig for me, so it is for sale. Any offers can be made via a message in my profile.

I have had the same problem on my end at times....I have done all the things that Regmar has done as well with no success. The times of the day/night are irrelevant. I am on high speed cable connection. I usually just give up and walk away from the computer. I thought it was an issue with my computer as well. I am running IE. :~)

Now .. I have had problems for EVAR .. with thumbnails (big and small) not showing up and this has caused me to frequent the galleries less often .. I blame my ISP, but who knows. I'm not techie enough to track it down .. and I get certain long forum threads to stop short of completion (including profile pages) .. and, yes, this is after server changes

I don't make a fuss about it because I think the problems are at my end .. I've dropped down to the WinXP firewall, something I am not happy about because I can't tell if it's doing anything .. but at least a few more images show up

I generally transfer images to a 'download manager' that resumes if necessary .. and this has NEVER dropped the ball ... it is this mechanism that has delivered the 35k finished files recently

I've tried all the tricks .. cache clearing, voodoo doll poking, rubbing two jacoba beans together while a cricket chirps ... nothing works, until something does

I have modified a server parameter that could maybe have caused the problem. Here's the image in question if you want to test it again: This Sucks.

I just tested the link you sent us using IE, as well as Mozilla, and I'm still getting the hanging problem. The image won't open either in small version (on its homepage), or full-sized.

I just tested other images by MadMaven (Sorry it had to be you, Mad.) I'm having the same problem with My Little Shutterbugs, Lift Off, and Emergence,, but not with any of her others - for example, Buckets Of Tears, and Seminole Sunset - revised by BernieSpeed . This problem is not confined to all her "New Images", because some work. On the other hand none of the images in the perm galleries have the problem that I can see. Also, I have never encountered the problem in the voting booth.

By the way, Maven, I love your "A Murder of Crows". I haven't heard that word used that way in a very long time.
