New Voting System

I see the Selective voting on each photo that one chooses to view is phased out...I am VERY pleased about this as I think now with Random voting only, people have a better chance of getting fair values attached to their photos. It will still be possible at times to determine whose photo it is in Random, but the chances are increased it will not occur too often. I would expect there to be a significant change in the number photos that used to get a high C-index value.....this will take some time-perhaps a month, but it ought to occur noticeably. I was getting a bit fatigued seeing the same people being chosen for permament and featured photo spots. Bravo Caedes!

There isn't much to be concerned with about the effect of the selective votes since they were recorded totally separately from the random votes. We now have a way for you to see all the selective votes that your images have received (so it wasn't a total waste for those of you who were still giving selective votes).

Allright! Today, I went to voting booth and there is a photo which has been viiewed over 1100 times and already has a c-index of 70....WHAT are we voting on/for?? I am under impression photos are randomly chosen so that all images get an even number of votes.HOW did this photo qualify?? Perplexing..........

It was viewed 1100 times… not voted on.

All the images in the permanent galleries continue to receive votes, and hopefully as they receive more, the c-indexes will stabilize and become more representative. As many people have pointed out lately, 10 votes (especially tossing in some from people who don't like the medium/subject of an image to begin with) is not a great sampling.

Just give the system time to catch up. The voting booth is less than a year old. Don't break the lever k? I'll be in there later today 8•P

ANY image that has an index of 70 has already been voted on enough---compared to those supposedly chosen that have not, according to the statement in voting booth......the purpose stated is that some photos have not had enough exposure (to paraphrase)....that image certainly has had enough exposure compared to those that are fresh and not already in permanent gallery.a year of the voting plan is enough time for kinks to have been worked out. Seems to me there are a lot of problems with the voting and that is not being admitted. Witness the changes that have been made to voting and the numver of people who have written there are problems.......a really good system is simple, elegant and works well.....THIS plan does not.

I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.
Along with the sunshine,
There's gotta be a little rain sometimes.
When you take, you gotta give, so live and let live,
Or let go.
I beg your pardon,
I never promised you a rose garden.

Yes .. many people have voiced dismay with the voting system at one time or another, including myself .. This is a community of people that enjoy sharing their works with the others and the world .. it is maintained (coded) by ONE individual at his expense .. and is provided as a FREE service to you

If you could refrain from posting about conspiracies and cliques and maltreatment at the hands of unqualified commenters and devise a better system, then put it forth in a clear concise manner .. I promise you that it will be read by somebody

enjoy what you can of the site .. the art, the people, the white motif .. pick one

Just because an image has 1100 views does not mean it has had 10 votes... 2 of mine for eg. one has 3697 views, 2621 downloads but only 9 votes... another one has 2158 views, 1568 downloads but only 9 votes (and I have quite a few like that)... which means people can still vote on it.. therefore the 1100 sounds like it is from the perm gallery, which as you have been informed before that previous images in that gallery had all the c-indexes removed and had to start the voting from scratch..
I'd like to ask you something... when you first came onto Caedes and became an active member, did you join because you wanted top votes and high c-index or did you join because you wanted to share your wonderful art work with the Caedes community and visitors to the site? I think a lot of people at the moment have forgot WHY they became active members, I also think they should look back to the beginning and ask themselves WHY they first posted an image here, because I'm sure that most had no idea about the voting and the c-index, and were creating their work for enjoyment and posting their work to share with other people and to improve their art work from helpful comments, tips and guidance.. not because so and so has a higher c-index and more votes... If you put your art work in a gallery there is no c-index or voting but you can get feedback if people like it or not.. and believe me you will never have everyone liking your art work, everyone has different tastes....... ok i've had my say... im finished...

Perhaps you could get together with these others and develop a site that uses this simple elegant system you speak of. I'm sure since it will obviously be so much better than this one it will also be much more popular. Until then, here's another quote that sprung to my mind, although I'm not sure who said it: "Like it or lump it".

People who use this site need to understand that there comes a point where this kind of thing stops being "feedback" and becomes complaining or whinging. That point passed long, long ago when it comes to the voting system. If someone asks for your opinion, or even if they don't ask and you give it anyway, that person can decide to change according to your opinion or not. If they don't, that doesn't mean you should continue to put forward your opinion over and over again.

It's about time that people accepted that there are NOT going to be any major changes to the voting system unless the person who implements and maintians it believes that it is warranted. There are many thousands of people who use caedes and it is arrogant for anyone to believe that they know how the site can be run better or to think that they somehow speak for the majority. I don't know how the owner of this site has had the patience to put up with it. I certainly wouldn't tolerate people coming on to my site and ranting that I should change it this way or that way.

Have I made this clear enough??? Probably not. I imagine in a few weeks there will be another post just like this one.
