View-to-download (VtD?) ratio statistic

The RCI (for me, and for Rob) is consistently just C-index minus 3. How about changing that column in the stats to be a View-to-download ratio for an image. I'd like to be able to scan down my image list to compare how my images did - it would be interesting!

I agree with you, Quiet, but I believe it was suggested before, and I was reminded then of the sound of a basketball falling into a trash can - a lot of echos but no responses. The response I got then was to copy my Control Panel and paste it into Excel and set up a formula to calculate it. It was all a bit tedious, so I gave it up.

By the way, that was very perceptive of you to catch that 3 point difference between the CI and the RCI. Mine is exactly the same all the way down - 93 images - all the same.

I have, a differance ranging from...1-10. :-S

You do not have to thank me if I leave a comment on your image...unless you really want to. ...this is a new thing to save time. =)

Thanks Regmar; I didn't realize it was already suggested and not picked up. I'm actually more interested in that statistic now than the C-index, but that's because the C-index on all my images is relatively the same (at or below average!). So now I find it more curious to know what draws people to them at all, much less what would make them also download a larger format. Thanks for posting here you guys. For future posters, we can let this thread drop if the idea didn't fly before! cheers, Quiet

Gallery's containing exclusively photographs (no fractals) like yours and mine, will always have an RCI three lower than the CI.

I have found it very handy actually. I've downloaded my gallery statistics to Excel and sorted by gallery by CI. Now I have a handy table that I can reference whenever I need to do subtraction by 3. For example, if I look in the fridge and see a dozen eggs, want to take 3 out to fry up for breakfast but wonder how many eggs will be left.. presto. I just need to look at the handy table! Scan down to an image with a c-index of 12. Pick the first one, look to the right once column ...and there's my answer!! .. 9 eggs left! How cool is that. I didn't need to find paper or a pencil or anything! Gotta love it.

Maybe we should call it an E-index.

The View-to-Download ratio is just one of many different metrics that could be added to the Control Panel. The reason that I'm hesitant to add more columns is that the panel is already quite wide. There is also the issue that the V:D ratio has a very complex behavior with respect to time. I'm not sure how useful is would be to most people. However for those who are interested there is always the spreadsheet solution.

What's a spreadsheet? I'm no accountant!

Agree, on the V:D ratio, not much use to me. I post what I like and enjoy, if someone else likes, cool, if not, cool. I do's my own thang. I don't care if my image gets archived or makes a top-notice rating of sorts. It's me, myself & I...if I can make someone's else's world a little brighter for 5 minutes, then I'm happy...if not, there's tons of stuff here that's bound to make someone smile somehwere in time.......

::Hottrockin(Randy):

The point of the thread, as I read it, is that the RCI (for photo galleries like your fine one),.equalling CI - 3, lacks value.

V:DL is an alternative suggestion that would/could/should replace RCI.

Caedes: The truth of RCI, for photo galleries, is that it is consistent, predictable, can can be calculated in one's head.

Gently,

Rob

ah but if you are not solely a photographer… and have images in abstract galleries… digital illustrations… contest galleries… then the RCI tells you different stories for different galleries 8•)

Excellent point Cat.

Can you give me an example of a story?

Charlotte's Web is a story .. I think

so is Hop on Pop 8•P

Certainly Rob… 1st 5 images in my very limited gallery

Contests -> Fantasy Landscapes RCI +10
Holidays-> Christmas RCI +8
Illustrations-> Digital +10
Contest-> Dreams +8
Holidays-> +5

Since most of those galleries traditionally (so far… PLEASE DO NOT START THE FRIGGIN C-INDEX DEBATE AGAIN) get lower c-index scores than the Photography gallery, it's interesting to see how my images stack up against the other images in the galleries they're in. 8•)

So, (a question borne in ignorance) the greater the RCI (over C) the better?

A higher RCI to indicates that you're "performance" within the gallery is better?

As I understand it the RCI is a value you can use to see how your images performed compared to the other images in the top-level gallery.

So let's say that your image as a CI of 57 and the RCI of that image is 54. That means that your image performed better than the average for the gallery. Of course a higher RCI is always a good thing.

Unless, of course, it's a photo. In which case the RCI is always 3 less than the C.

So, in the end, the RCI is seen as having of some value to non-photo posts. (presuming value is found in the indexes)

So .. back to the original thread (thanks for the side journey) something other than RCI could/should/would have value ... V:DL is a good idea which has application to all posters.

Kindly,

R
