Saw this guy while I was golfing the other day and was fortunate to get a photo. The way I had been hitting the golf I was sure I would miss this shot. Luckily the fairway was parallel to him or he might have been in trouble. Not a closeup that everyone likes but I thought he looked good in his environment. He might develop an Adam's Apple should he find a golf ball.

This was taken with the Panasonic DMC FZ37. Exposure 1/125; Aperture F4.4; ISO 80 and Focal Length 86.4. It has a 18X Zoom and the Exif said the photo was equivalent to 529mm. It is a little soft at full zoom but I didn't go there. There is a little noise but I left it to add to the atmosphere.

I like it ... it is natural and that's not always a bad thing. In this case it's a good thing. Great color, comp. and reflection. Nicely done, Tick !

I like the fact that you have left him in his natural surroundings, and the noise does not bother me one bit, I also like how he seems illuminated in the setting. Tigz♥ =^..^=

TicK, I would have cropped the shot, sharpened the hell out of it to try to make this into a closeup, de-noised it until all the detail was lost and then oversaturated it. You did the right thing.

Sorry to hear about your golf game. I watched the U.S. Open today. Didn't see your name on the leader board. What's the deal?

A difficult Shoot, those Blue Heron's! I missed my Chance on one of These three Time's last summer... and, I'm still Fuming about it! Cool effect with the Rippling water and Reflections... your Image has Much in terms of Atmosphere! BTW, you really Can't go wrong with The Panasonic's... the really Catch color's and Shoot sharp!

The surrounding environment gives this perspective to the size!...

Lovely 'greens' which are to be expected on a golf course!..

Good job you missed the bird....They don't taste so good!!!

He's out of range of your driving ability,So he's happy just watching you digging up the fairways..Maybe when you move on,He'll pop up and find some worms among the divots..Canny picture..R.

Tick, I know by own experience that it's very hard to make a good capture of these shy birds. Mostly they notice me already at a rather far distance and fly away. You've succeeded in doing this very well, and I like to agree with you that this is a good enviromental image.

Thanks for the interesting exif data as well, Owd Fella.

Regards, Cornelius.

Wow! Did he know he was in the middle of a work of art? Beautiful artful reflection in the water and he just adds so much to the shot. Wonderful. Faved.
