My wife and I were on our way to the grandson's football game last Friday and we had to make a quick stop to pick up some slacks my wife had altered. The seamstress lives in the country and she loves hummingbirds. I was surprised to see some still around. Since I had the equipment (Nikon D7000 and Nikkor 70-300mm lens) it was no problem to get a few shots.

The problem came later when I downloaded my photos of the hummers and the football game on the computer. I started to edit them the next day and was in the Nikon ViewNX2 software. I deleted one photo and the entire file/folder disappeared. I tried and tried to find it but was unsuccessful. I had already deleted them on the card because I had another football game to shoot. I finally downloaded a recovery software and found a few of the shots. The rest are floating somewhere in infinity. A few I found were corrupted and were unusable. Wish I knew more about computers.

That's the end of my sad tale. I hope you enjoy one I was able to recover.

Only the experts (police department) can recover them all intact Tick. At least you got this beautiful shot of the bird intact.

Tick ... I had something similar happen to me 6 months ago except I still had the images on my camera's SD card so I could download them again. It's a mystery for sure.

Wonderful clarity & I sure love the blue sky / clouds in the background. My hummers left about a month ago. Excellent capture.

I will let you know if that lost floating folder winds up on my computer. LOL. That would have broke my heart if it had happened to me. The shot you salvaged is a dandy, Tick.

Tick, think it's not a problem with your computer or a lack of expertise. I have ViewNX2 as well (primarily for transferring my NEF images from different Nikon bodies into the computer) and I have dealt with some identical problems too! I asked Nikon-Europe about that, but their answer did not satisfy me. Therefore I've changed my upload procedure for my recently taken images: all these images are stored twice, separately on two identical 3TB external HD's (one as the original and the other one as a back-up medium). After I've checked that both drives contain all my uploaded images, than I delete my images on the SD-card of my involved Nikon-body.

Losing my images would cause a nervous breakdown to me, LOL!!!

Very nice and colorful capture however Owd Fella, well done!

Regards, Cornelius.

Congrats on this super capture, I think this is a first for you my friend. In any case you and the Nikon did such a good job. What a shame to loose all of those pics, pretty much sucks, and I would be so darn upset. =^..^=tigz♥

I too have had problems with Nikon's software Tick so think Mr. C is correct about where the problem is - frankly I don't use it any more 'cause I'd be heartbroken if I lost a great shot like this.

Cute little guy - looks like he is checking the level of the sweet stuff in that feeder. The hummers will start south for their long trip across the Gulf soon. The count takes place in October at Gulf Shores, Alabama. I still have several buzzing around emptying the feeders daily so they are fattening up for their long flight. Good shot Tick - it is sometimes difficult to get them to sit still long enough for a good photo.

The feeder adds scale to the wee Hummer, while the blue slightly cloudy sky provides a slightly surreal edge.
Sorry to hear of your loss Tic, especially after trying to recover deleted pix. I too use NX 2 to import and partially process jpegs, it's great software that I'm not fully understanding yet.

As for knowing more about computers it's a fast evolving science and very few can keep up, besides who wants to be a geek!

Great capture TicK! I upload my pictures from the sd card via copy and paste. I don't trust those pesky programs to do me right. I also have View NX2 software but I seldom use it. I use other software that has more features and more control.

I feel your pain, TicK. There's been a few times I've bent over and my pants have become altered in the posterior region.

A good capture of the hummer. Nice clarity and lovely colours in the photo.
