The Owd Timer (dunstickin) posted this photo yesterday and reminded me of my Grandfather. He was a hard worker and operated a saw mill and threshing machine during the Depression Era. This is a photo of him sitting on the Steam Tractor. The photo was taken in Omaha, Missouri in front of the old store and restaurant. The building is still there, but that is all. In fact my daughter exchanged her wedding vows in front of this building.

I suspect they were "letting off a little steam," after enjoying lunch. The mules could definitely out run the Steam Engine Tractor," but they couldn't outwork or outpull the mighty engine. My grandfather died in 1963, so I never had the chance to talk to him about this photo. My daughter was born on his birthday, so it was fitting she chose this spot to exchange her vows. I added a texture to the photo.

Excellent metaphor with the comparison of the abilities of the mules vs the locomotive. It is like today, as A.I. replaces humans in jobs in all walks of life.

So nice to have such old photos that bring back memories Tick. For such an old photo the clarity and details are still very good. Interesting narrative too.

Amazing! .. there's not a lot of difference between the two machines, they were the real work 'horses' of those era's!..
This image shows a lot of history of that time...especially for your family.

Thanks for posting...so, I have kept it...😉

Owd Fella Tick (OFT), to me this old and pretty rare shot can be categorized as 'time document' and in the future it has to be saved and cherished as a heritage by either your child(ren) or grandchildren. Thanks too for your explaining narrative. As far I've count properly, your grandfather died when you were 18 years young. It's a pity that you hadn't the chance to talk about this photograph. I've experienced the same with my late grandfather (an old salt as well). He didn't speak two words if only one was sufficient.

...With a sizable belt attached to the flywheel or main pulley, these were often the "Power Plants" of many types of work, farm, and harvesting machinery back in the day...

- The tractor, I mean - NOT the mules! :P

Nice presentation...Faved
