The first wind turbine in my county is nearing completion, and hopes to be generating electricity by the fall of 2020. There will be 97 such turbines when the first phase of TG High Prairie LLC project is completed. According to Wikipedia and the U.S. Census Bureau, Schuyler County has a total area of 308 square miles (800 km2), of which 307 square miles (800 km2) is land and 0.9 square miles (2.3 km2) (0.3%) is water. It is the second-smallest county in Missouri by area and borders Iowa to the north.

In comparison, Adair County which borders Schuyler County on the south , has a total area of 569 square miles (1,470 km2), of which 567 square miles (1,470 km2) is land and 2.1 square miles (5.4 km2) (0.4%) is water. They will eventually have around 90 such turbines.

Some of the residents lobbied against the Wind Turbines, but the majority of the residents wanted the increased revenue the Wind Turbines would generate in tax money. This photo appeared in the local newspaper, along with some others I have taken during their construction. Our landscape is about to change. Many of you already know how they affect the landscape.

Unless you live close to them there shouldn't be any objection Tick. You won't hear the sound also. Only danger is for the birds. Often they fly through and are killed instantly.

Raj is correct about the danger to birds. I think about your eagles and hope they can survive this too.

Tesla was working on an electric grid which would have given free energy to the world. That would have been neat, but how would the politicians tax it?

They are something to see as they are hauled down the road, I do think they are an eyesore, and very dangerous to birds. I feel like an ant when standing up close to one. :) tigz=^..^=

They are not particularly close to the north suburban area of Chicago where I live but I have been around them when traveling in parts of central and southern Illinois - they are interesting but I have also read of the danger to birds - hope all goes well with this development.

---Some of the residents lobbied against the Wind Turbines, but the majority of the residents wanted the increased revenue the Wind Turbines would generate in tax money.---

Owd Fella Tick (OFT), wind turbines have been a well-known phenomenon in my small country for years. Similar to the above quote, opinions are divided. The objectors are the people in the immediate vicinity. They experience the repeating drop shadows and the monotonous hum as very annoying. Bird lovers also have reservations because the wind turbines cause many bird strikes. The proponents are the people who benefit financially from the realization of the wind turbines and people who think that the realization of wind turbines will bring environmental benefits.
Here, too, the medal has two sides.

Good photojournalism contribution however!

Take care, stay safe and healthy in these worrying times!

Unfortunately, many things have two sides. We want to progress and then we have problems. It's everywhere the same. But, stay safe and healthy.

...Impressive!

--- So, you need quite a few of them to make it all worthwhile, but it's still better than coal, gas, or a dangerous nuke!

Thanks for sharing this, Cap'n... Faved
