The Beaubourg is a district of the"IVe arrondissement" of Paris..Much of Beaubourg 's charm rests on the juxtaposition of dashing, contemporary design with centuries-old buildings..In the vicinity of "Georges Pompidou center" is a fountain conceived as an evocation of Igor Stravinsky's music..It was created by Jean Tinguely and his wife,Niki de Saint-Phale: the several articulated sculptures ,both black and coloured ,are set in motion by water pressure..The Stravinsky Fountain has the striking Eglise Saint-Merri,a Renaissance-era church ,built in the gothic style as a surprisingly complementary background ..!.... Paris contrasts...

Adriana, although we have in Holland nowadays similar trends, think this kind of extraordinary contrast (comtempary design in an environment of centuries old buildings) is only possible in Franch. To me it isn't in harmony with each other and therefore I don't like this kind of art (personal taste). Thanks anyhow for showing us this 'strange situation' by means of a very good image of yours. Great image! I like the juxtaposition of colourful secular whimsy (very Stravinsky) against the traditional church background. Guess it must be the French in me. :-)))

Adriana, I like the juxtapostion between the forms. To me it is very creative (but sometimes creative can be hard on the eyes). Nevertheless, I truly feel that you have a very good picture here. Thanks for posting it.

Very very new to this, and only have a bog standard fuji 2mb digi camera.
it's art, and sometimes art is whimsical and sometimes it takes itself seriously and presents us with a lot of work. I'm glad I've seen this. It tells me that art can take us from the sublime to the ridiculous without ever losing face :)

I think Stravinsky would be disappointed by their tribute..it does not go with his music which is classic and quite lyrical.this is the ridiculous to the the sublime.the contrast with the gothic church is awful.however, your photo, is quite good...
