In yesterdays posting, Town Hall Man,I mentioned, how close the Town Hall and the Votiv Church are. I wanted to show this with this picture, but I think the most beautiful things on this picture, are all the old laterns. Let's see, what you think.

Well... this is one i really like. You've chosen the perfect view - with the lightposts lined-up & on the other side the buildings leading us to the two impressive towers. Excelent, but... i'm sry to say that you didn't chose the right day :(. The sky isn't as impressive as the shot so doesn't complete it well for my eyes & i think there was a mist to. The shot is really cool & i'm hoping you'll do it again on a clear & sunny day. Tnx for sharing & bravo... Paul.

Beauty is no quality in things themselves. It exists merely in the mind which contemplates them, and each mind perceives a different beauty.

Hi Sabine and I agree with the above comment this is very well done and I love the lanterns. A blue sky in the background would have been a bonus to this post. Sandi

Terrific post Sabine. Looking at the beautiful church in the distance and yet getting the benefit of the great lanterns and old buildings in the foreground. An excellent capture and post my friend. Great job.

The composition of this one attracted me from the thumbnail. I love the birds in the sky, and the lanterns and I don't mind the gray sky. I do wonder what it would look like with more light. My vote is for a brighter gray day!

This shot is very pleasing. I notice the symmetry and excellent composition of the foreground as being primary, as it should be, and that alone makes it a great shot. The beautiful gothic spires in the background are icing on the cake. I agree about the lanterns.

I can't really add any more to what has already been said. It is a really lovely study of funcionality and beauty combined and compared. A blue sky WOULD be the icing on the cake. So I for one would love to see a retake on a lovely Austrian morning;o)
Cheers,
Steve.

Hi, I saw your message on the discussion board. I think the grey sky is better than a blue one here. It gives a dreary feel to everything. Since everything else is sortof greys and blacks with cold textures, a bright blue sky would just take away from that. What maybe would keep me from giving this a higher rating is that I can't really tell what the sbject is. The lamps are really interesting and have so much character. The spires on the church are amazing too. So which is the subject? They do work together, but the remainder of the picture doesn't seem to fit. The building in the distance on the right looks plain and uninteresting because of it's lack of detail from being so far away. The buildings on the left could be interesting, but the angle of the shot prevents one from seeing much of anything about them.

So basically I think the material is there to make a good shot, but the angle isn't as good as it maybe could be. What do you think?

Every day you may make progress. Every step may be fruitful. Yet there will stretch out before you an ever-lengthening, ever-ascending, ever-improving path. You know you will never get to the end of the journey. But this, so far from discouraging, only adds to the joy and glory of the climb. - Churchill

the grey sky sets a moodier vibe .. and to imagine it with a blue, cheery sky is not the same

and I also agree that, compositionally, the image suffers a bit .. for example, the activity at the street level would have been an option, possibly, instead of censoring it out with the tilted angle

A 72 c-index right now...that's very good!! I have mucho images with lots less. 8~)

I agree with King Keifer above in that the sky gives way to a very moody effect & feel. It still has a sense of life with a few birds, so I like it.

I really luv the lines you've utilized with the wall and lamppost in drawing your eyes to the subject at hand. The only thing I might've tried would've been to squeeze in a wee bit and locked the foremost lamppost to the right border, basically seeing only about half of it.

All, in all a stricking capture!! Kudos!!
